🐝HOMECOMING🇬🇧 Ricky Hatton vs Juan Lazcano | FULL FIGHT | RING Light-Welterweight Title
Ricky Hatton vs. Juan Lazcano, billed as Homecoming, was a boxing light welterweight fight between Ricky Hatton and challenger Juan Lazcano for the IBO and The Ring titles. It was held in Manchester, England at the City of Manchester Stadium in front of a record 55,000 fans. This was a record for a boxing event post world war II, until 2014 when Carl Froch faced George Groves, fight which sold 80,000 seats.
Hatton was coming off his first career loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. and was fighting for the first time back in Manchester. It was a thanks to all his fans who had travelled to the States to watch his previous four fights and was held in his home Football ground of his beloved Manchester City.[2]
Lazcano was a durable opponent who was in the top ten for light welterweights in the Ring Magazine rankings. His only stoppage defeat was to Golden Johnson ten years previously and he was also coming off a loss to Vivian Harris.
Paulie Malignaggi was on the undercard as he and Hatton were meant to fight each other later in the year.
The weigh-in took place at the Trafford Centre in Manchester and there was a lot of anticipation about Hatton’s Ring Entrance. A lot of people were criticizing his diet between fights and were saying he was past his best, He wanted to prove them wrong and also take a dig at them at the same time. Hatton said it could be his last in Britain.
The fight was on Sky Box Office in the UK and Versus (TV channel) in the United States. Juan Lazcano saw an upset on the cards and trainer Ronnie Shields was saying that Hatton was washed up and ready for the taking.

🥊 Floyd Mayweather vs Jose Luis Castillo II | FULL FIGHT | WBC/RING Lightweight Titles | 7/12/2002
Floyd Mayweather Jr. 28–0 (20 KO) vs. José Luis Castillo 46–5–1 (42 KO) II was a professional boxing match contested on December 7, 2002 for the WBC and The Ring lightweight titles.
Mayweather and Castillo had fought eight months earlier with Mayweather prevailing with a unanimous decision. The decision was seen as controversial as Castillo had clearly outpunched Mayweather 203 to 157 and landed over 100 more power punches than Mayweather.
The fight’s promoter Bob Arum, while not necessarily saying Mayweather didn’t win, called the scoring for the fight, with Mayweather having won comfortably by five points on one scorecard and four points on the other two, “ludicrous” and vowed that he would attempt to schedule a rematch on August 10 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles with the bout being carried on HBO pay-per-view rather than on cable. However, Arum’s plans were scuttled when Mayweather refused to fight in Los Angeles, claiming he could not trust the judges and did not want to fight in front of what expected to be a largely Mexican crowd that would be in favor of Castillo.
As a result of Mayweather’s refusal to fight in Los Angeles, the fight was rescheduled to take place in Nevada’s Mandalay Bay Events Center on October 5 with the fight happening on a standard telecast of HBO World Championship Boxing rather than on HBO pay-per-view.
In preparation for the rematch with Mayweather, Castillo took a tune-up fight with Verdell Smith, defeating him by third-round knockout in his native Mexico in early August.
While training for the fight in late September, Castillo developed a case of Achilles tendinitis, resulting in the fight being postponed until December 7. Though Castillo was expected to be healed by October 19, Arum opted to move the fight to December so as to avoid competition from the 2002 World Series.
Originally, the Mayweather–Castillo rematch was to be the main event of a boxing card that featured WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko defending his title against Jameel McCline as the featured undercard bout. However, when Mayweather no-showed a press conference promoting the card three days before the event, Arum, having tired of Mayweather’s antics, decided to flip the two fights with the Klitschko–McCline bout taking the main event slot, while the Mayweather–Castillo fight was moved to the undercard.
