The trend ‘newstalgia’, a combination of the terms ‘new’ and ‘nostalgia,’ is all about combining vintage home decor with contemporary pieces and accents, to create an interior style that mixes old and new and is perfectly tailored to each person’s individual style. The trend is expected to be huge in 2023, with #Newstalgia seeing over 2.2 million views on TikTok, Google searches for the trend increasing by 135% and Pinterest’s trend report for 2023 stating that mixing modern and antique furniture will increase by 530% this year.3 Anna and Lotte, interior experts and owners of LAMP/LDN, also explain that: “the best interiors are those with depth and character and the best ways to create this is with a mixture of old and new pieces” which perfectly relates to Newstalgia.
To add Newstalgic interiors to your window space, pair any vintage or antique accessories you have with modern touches, such as a vintage lamp on your windowsill next to a modern knot ornament or donut vase field with dried flowers. Incorporating retro, 70s style furniture and pieces is also key to this trend, which you can do with wavy printed cushions, curtains and blinds or curved furniture in front of your window.
