Israeli air strikes hit Yemen’s main international airport | BBC News

Published

on

Air strikes have been reported in two cities in Yemen, with witnesses and governing Houthi rebels saying the country’s main international airport and a military base were targeted in the capital Sanaa.

Israel has said it carried out the strikes, and that its air force had targeted Houthi “military infrastructure”.

Yemen’s Houthi-run broadcaster Al Masirah reported that three people were killed in the strikes, and a further 11 were wounded.

Meanwhile in Gaza, a Palestinian TV channel says five of its journalists were killed in an Israeli strike while in a marked media vehicle, while Israel says it targeted “Islamic Jihad operatives posing as journalists.”

What next after US President Donald Trump loses his fight with the press? | BBC Americast

Published

on

The US president has lost his court battle with CNN, Politico and MS NOW in the latest battle between Donald Trump and the media. What did the judge say and what happens next?

At the end of the last week Donald Trump banned three news outlets – CNN, Politico and MS Now – from reporting inside the White House. But the ban has been overturned – for now – in an emergency hearing by a federal judge, who ordered the banned journalists’ press credentials be immediately reinstated for 14 days.

It’s still not entirely clear what prompted Donald Trump to punish the outlets although it’s been reported that it may have been prompted by negative coverage he was shown by his aide, Natalie Harp.

In this episode, Justin, Anthony and Marianna speak to former CNN correspondent, anchor and bureau chief Frank Sesno, who is now a Journalism professor at The George Washington School of Media and Public Affairs. The latest row comes at a difficult moment for the president who’s fighting historically low approval ratings and an unpopular war in Iran. It’s yet to be seen what the president will do next after the judgement or if it’s a sign of growing pressure ahead of November’s midterm elections.

This is the moment BBC Correspondent Michael Buchanan caught up to a former medical director who refused to cooperate with a review into failings at Nottingham University Hospital NHS Trust which found that 155 babies may have survived with better care.

As part of her review, Donna Ockenden said 66 former and current senior NUH colleagues were approached, with only 35 interviewed. Keith Girling and other former executives failed to attend.

Girling replied “no comment” when questioned by the BBC about why he refused to speak to the Ockenden review.
