Israeli football fans attacked in Amsterdam, officials say | BBC News
Violence broke out in Amsterdam last night as Israeli football club Maccabi Tel Aviv was in the city for a Europa League match.
At least 62 people were arrested, Dutch police say, and five people taken to hospital.
There were arrests in Dam Square before the match, with reports of clashes between pro-Palestinian protesters and Maccabi fans. Videos seemingly showed visiting fans setting off fireworks, making racist chants about Arabs, and tearing down a Palestinian flag.
The Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof condemned “antisemitic attacks” on Israelis, and said the city was now “calm”.

Today, there has been more criticism from victims’ families over plans to release some prisoners early.
Under the policy, due to begin in October, thousands of prisoners will be eligible to be released part way through their sentences. Ministers announced last night that prisoners guilty of rape, serious child sex offences and grooming will be excluded. Ukrainian President Zelensky has shared a video of a street vendor being hunted by a drone before it exploded.
The man in the video verified by the BBC, 52-year-old street vegetable seller Yuriy, managed to survive the attack, but sustained shrapnel wounds and a concussion.
Russia has repeatedly denied intentionally targeting civilians.

PC Harper’s mother ‘devastated’ his killers set for early release despite revised plans | BBC News
The mother of PC Andrew Harper has told the BBC she is “devastated” two of his killers remain eligible for early release after the UK government revised plans to tackle overcrowding.
Prisoners who committed rape, grooming, and serious child sex offences will be excluded from the scheme for England and Wales, the government announced on Monday.
UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham said he “wanted to go even further”, but that would not be possible without the prison system collapsing and putting the public “at much greater risk”.
PC Harper, 28, was killed in 2019 when he was dragged by a car down a country road as three teenagers fled the scene of a quad bike theft in Berkshire.
