The race to sign Kylian Mbappe – How a Caen scout nearly signed the French wonderkid
Caen scout David Lasry tells the story of how the club nearly signed a young Kylian Mbappe and remembers being “blown away” by Mbappe’s talent, who he thought was “a future Ballon d’Or contender”.
According to Lasry, Mbappe’s father Wilfried informed him the family had made their minds up for the youngster to join Caen, but the deal fell through when the club were relegated from Ligue 1.
