La fille de Levy – Pills et Tabet – 1932 – with English Subtitles

Published

on

@alinecunio6864
This song is part of a playlist: Best French Songs 1930s with English Subtitles

The info below is from Wikipedia
LA FILLE LEVY:
A humoristic song of someone founding a solution to love and money, by marrying the daughter of Levy, but it comes at a price which he is not keen to pay.
Apparently there is another song: J’ai épousé la fille de Levy (I have married the daughter of Levy) also by Pills et Tabet. (only the lyrics are to be found on the internet)

PILL ET TABET:
Known by his artist name Jacques Pills, René Ducos started out at the Moulin Rouge, where Mistinguett starred. He develops with his acolyte Georges Tabet the number of duettist Pills and Tabet, with which they skim successfully all over Europe. The duo performed songs by Mireille and Jean Nohain (eg Couchés dans le foin and La fille de Levy). In 1939, he married the singer Lucienne Boyer, with whom he had a daughter in 1941, Jacqueline Boyer. In the 1940s, regaining his independence, he became a charm singer (Seul dans la nuit). His impresario was then Bruno Coquatrix. He chose the future Gilbert Bécaud as accompanying pianist for a tour of America. Together, they write “Je t’ai dans la peau” for Edith Piaf. On July 29, 1952, he married Édith Piaf (Marlène Dietrich being one of the witnesses to their marriage). In 1959, he was chosen for Monaco’s first participation in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song Mon ami Pierrot (which will be ranked last out of eleven candidates). With the success of yéyé music, he gave up his career as a singer and retired to his family home in Bretagne-de-Marsan in the Landes department, before returning to Paris where he collaborated with Bruno Coquatrix for designing shows at the Olympia.
