Published

on

Colombian naval officials monitoring a sunken Spanish ship laden with treasure have discovered two other historical shipwrecks nearby, President Iván Duque has announced.

The San José galleon was sunk by the British in 1708 near Colombia’s Caribbean port of Cartagena.

The wreckage was located in 2015.

It has been described as the holy grail of shipwrecks, as the ship was carrying one of the largest amounts of valuables ever to have been lost at sea.

Why Meta doubled down after Frances Haugen blew the whistle | Top Comment Podcast

Published

on

As The Social Reckoning hits cinemas, the whistleblower who inspired the movie joins Top Comment to discuss what’s changed since she leaked tens of thousands of internal Facebook documents in 2021.

Considered by many to be the primary catalyst for much of the legislation and litigation currently targeting social media giants, Frances Haugen’s revelations have nonetheless been followed by an apparent acceleration by those same companies in pursuit of maximum engagement.

On this episode, Frances talks about tech accountability in the age of AI, the increasingly punitive measures being taken against others who decide to speak out, and what she really thinks of Mark Zuckerberg. Meta has consistently disputed Frances Haugen’s characterisation of its policy, culture and safety procedures.

How can you spend years paying off your student loan and still owe more than you borrowed?

Ten years ago, the first Plan 2 borrowers started repaying their student loans. Since then, graduates who left university with similar debts have found themselves on very different financial paths.

The amount you earn affects how much you repay, how much interest builds up and whether you’ll ever clear your balance. BBC Education Correspondent Hazel Shearing investigates why so many graduates are frustrated with the system and what their student loan really means for their future.

Ex-gang boss Duane “Keffe D” Davis sentenced for orchestrating Tupac Shakur’s murder | BBC News

Published

on

Former gang boss Duane “Keffe D” Davis has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for orchestrating the murder of rapper Tupac Shakur in a drive-by shooting in 1996.

The key evidence in the case were Davis’ own words, in which he repeatedly and publicly acknowledged being inside the white Cadillac from where the deadly shots were fired.

A jury found him guilty in September of one count of murder with a deadly weapon. Davis has said he will appeal the verdict.

His conviction was the first in a cold case that has intrigued hip-hop fans for nearly 30 years.
