A US warplane has fired on an Iranian oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman. The US military said the ship was trying to breach the US imposed blockade of Iran’s ports. The attacks is the latest threat to the four week ceasefire between the two countries.

President Trump has threatened Iran with a new wave of bombing if a deal is not reached to open the strait of Hormuz, the key shipping lane which usually carries around a fifth of the world’s supplies of oil and natural gas.

Trump also suggested the war would end soon and that oil and gas shipments would restart. He again insisted that Iran was ready to make a deal to end the conflict.

Israel has renewed its bombing of Lebanon’s capital Beirut. Iran has previously said that no deal will be reached while Israel continues its attacks on Lebanon.

Russia’s Victory Day parade – held every 9th May to mark the defeat of Nazi Germany – is traditionally used by the Kremlin as an opportunity to show off its military power. But this year, the celebrations will be drastically scaled back. For the first time in nearly two decades there will be no advanced military hardware on Red Square. And analysts say it is a sign that Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine is not going to plan.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned foreign dignitaries not to attend the parade, leading to speculation that Kyiv may order drone strikes on Moscow. Ukraine has been intensifying its long-range strikes inside Russian territory in recent weeks.

Each side has declared a separate ceasefire ahead of this weekend – and accused the other of breaking it.

In just the last few years, AI chatbots have become routine aspects of many people’s everyday lives. They are being used as search engines, agony aunts and sources of companionship.

In rare cases though, AI chatbots have sent users down a dark path. In a new BBC investigation, population correspondent Stephanie Hegarty speaks to people who have experienced delusions after talking to chatbots – including one man who grabbed a hammer and prepared for war after his chatbot told him it was sentient.

The outbreak of hantavirus on a cruise ship carrying passengers from across the world is a situation that authorities say they are taking incredibly seriously.

Three passengers have died either on board or after travelling on the ship, which set sail from Argentina a month ago.

A huge operation is in place to trace people potentially exposed to the virus who have already taken flights home to numerous countries, including the UK, South Africa, the Netherlands, the US and Switzerland.

Health experts stress the risk to the general public is low.
