Why does the Netflix ad plan still cost $8.99?

Published

on

By

Without ads, Netflix Standard is $19.99 in the US, so the ads must cover an $11 gap. At about $30 per 1,000 ads (top streamers, per agency executives quoted by Digiday in Sept 2024) that is about 370 ads, or 20 hours of viewing a month at 18 ads an hour. At $11 per 1,000 it is 1,000 ads, or 56 hours. Sources: help.netflix.com (read 23 Oct 2026), Digiday Future of TV Briefing 18 Sept 2024, Wurl CTV Trends Report March 2025.

The Straitéis AI Daily Edition, 24th October, Measure AI, review outputs and set boundaries

Quoted extracts from articles published by Straitéis AI:

1. Nobody Knows What AI Is Actually Doing to Your Workforce

Published 2026-10-24 (Europe/Dublin)

“Confidence is cheap when you haven’t checked the figures. Ibec surveyed 319 HR professionals in Ireland for its latest talent trends report, and most don’t expect AI to shrink headcount in 2027. That sounds reassuring, until you read the next line. Thirty-six per cent of those same organisations haven’t properly assessed AI’s impact on their workforce structure at all.”

“So the confidence isn’t coming from measurement. It’s coming from not having looked yet.”

2. When AI Turns Your Soda Bread Into a Can of Cola

Published 2026-10-24 (Europe/Dublin)

“A Belfast cafe sells bacon and egg soda bread. This week, on Just Eat, the photo for it showed a can of cola with egg and bacon sitting inside it.”

“The AI had read “soda” and gone looking for the drink. Just Eat had been testing AI-generated images for menu items without real photos, across the tens of thousands of small restaurants it works with. Some results were so wrong they went viral for the wrong reasons, and the company has now apologised, pulled the images, and paused the whole thing until the technology improves.”

3. Bars and Restaurants Are Banning Meta’s AI Glasses. What’s Your Policy?

Published 2026-10-24 (Europe/Dublin)

“Give people a way to record anyone without being noticed, and some of them will. Meta’s AI smart glasses have been used to secretly film women and girls without consent, and have been branded “creepy” as a result. A Meta vice president told RTÉ this week that a small LED light warns people when they’re being filmed, and the camera stops if someone tampers with it. People have drilled the light out anyway.”
