Thousands of doctors in Seoul are striking in protest of the government’s plans to introduce more trained physicians into the system.

South Korea has one of the lowest doctor-to-patient ratios among major economies, so the government wants to add more medical school placements.

But groups representing doctors argue that the government should prioritise better pay and working conditions.

Israel supports US-Iran ceasefire but says it ‘does not include Lebanon’ | BBC News

Published

on

Israel has said it supports suspending strikes on Iran, but added the two-week ceasefire “does not include Lebanon”.

A statement from the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel “supports President Trump’s decision to suspend strikes against Iran for two weeks subject to Iran immediately opening the straits and stopping all attacks on the US, Israel and countries in the region”.

It then said: “The two-weeks ceasefire does not include Lebanon”.

Iran and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who helped negotiate the ceasefire, both have said the deal covers Lebanon, where Israel has been fighting the Iranian proxy Hezbollah.

US President Donald Trump announced a two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran, if shipping is allowed to move through the Strait of Hormuz.
