Coronavirus: Europe at the epicentre of the pandemic – BBC News
The World Health Organisation says Europe is now the epicentre, of the global coronavirus pandemic. The news emerged as organised sport, both professional and amateur, across much of the UK, came to a standstill because of the outbreak.
The Premier League, English Football League and Scottish Football Association have all called a temporary halt to fixtures until the 3rd of April. In rugby, all Six Nations matches have been cancelled this weekend, and next month’s London Marathon, has been postponed.
The advice now in the UK is that if you have a high temperature, or a new persistent dry cough, then you should self-isolate, for 7 days.
Meanwhile in the US Donald Trump has declared a “national emergency” in the United States in response to the threat from coronavirus. Responding to criticism, he said many more Americans would be tested for the virus — and said his administration’s overriding goal was to stop the spread of the disease.

US and Iran exchange strikes and accuse each other of violating ceasefire | BBC News
The US has conducted new strikes on Iran, following a drone attack on a Panama-flagged vessel in the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday.
US Central Command (Centcom) said it hit multiple targets across Iran in direct response to “continued aggression” against commercial shipping.
In retaliation, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it has launched missiles and drones at US infrastructure in Kuwait and Bahrain, in a statement shared to state media.
Following the exchange of fire, the US and Iran accused each other of violating the ceasefire agreement.

In his first interview since stepping down as UK Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer has said that his resignation “became an intensely personal decision” which was taken “ultimately” when he went to Chequers with his wife and children.
In an interview with the BBC’s Chief Political Correspondent Henry Zeffman, Keir Starmer also said that while he didn’t want his premiership to end “at this point”, he accepts it with “good grace.”
