The US-Saudi nuclear deal explained | The Global Story

Published

on

When the Trump administration announced last week that it had signed a nuclear deal with Saudi Arabia, the agreement was held up by US Energy Secretary Chris Wright as evidence that ”the American nuclear renaissance is underway”.

Although the text of the deal has not yet been made public, US media report that it could allow Saudi Arabia to enrich uranium in the future. But shortly after the announcement, President Trump took to Truth Social to qualify the news – saying that the deal hinges on Saudi Arabia’s willingness to recognise the state of Israel.

Is that likely? And could the deal derail ongoing negotiations between the US and Iran? We speak to BBC security correspondent Frank Gardner.

Firefighters try to stop flare-up of France and Spain wildfires as fourth heatwave begins | BBC News

Published

on

#France #SpainA fourth heatwave of the summer has begun in Spain and France, with firefighters trying to prevent a flare-up from major wildfires that have only just been brought under control.

In Spain, 24,000 people have been told they can return to their homes in the Madrid region, but some fires further afield have continued to burn.

Fire crews in France have been tackling wildfires in the south-west as temperatures soar to 40C, prompting fears more fires could break out.

Officials in the Gironde region insist fires there are under control. Thousands of evacuees can now return to their homes but they’ve been warned they may need to leave again.

Why does the UK want the Tate brothers in court? | BBCNews

Published

on

Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan are facing extradition from the US to the UK after authorities announced 38 new charges against them, including rape and sex trafficking.

The total number of charges against the brothers is now 59, police said.

Andrew, 39, and Tristan, 37 – who came to global fame via social media – have previously denied any wrongdoing.

The dual British-US citizens were taken into custody and appeared before a federal court in July as prosecutors launched legal proceedings to have them sent to the UK.
