UN demands investigation of “mass graves” at Gaza hospitals | BBC News

Published

on

The UN’s human rights chief has said he is “horrified” by the destruction of Gaza’s Nasser and al-Shifa hospitals and the reports of “mass graves” being found at the sites after Israeli raids.
Volker Türk called for independent investigations into the deaths.

Palestinian officials said they had exhumed 283 bodies at Nasser hospital, some with their hands tied. It is not clear how they died or when they were buried.

Israel’s military said claims that it buried bodies there were “baseless”.But it did say that during a two-week operation at the hospital in the city of Khan Younis in February, troops “examined” bodies buried by Palestinians “in places where intelligence indicated the possible presence of hostages”.

More than 40 people have died in Kenya after a dam burst, following heavy rains and flooding.

People in villages 60km (37 miles) from the capital, Nairobi, were swept away as they slept, and rescue teams are digging through the mud in search of survivors in several villages, including Kamuchiri and Kianugu in Nakuru county.

Seventeen of the 42 bodies recovered so far have been children, with officials saying the death toll could continue to rise.

More than 100 people have been killed in floods that have devastated parts of Kenya in the last month, and over 100,000 people have been displaced, with many taking shelter in schools.
