Record-breaking temperatures in US and Europe heats up again | BBC News
More than 165 million people across the US East Coast are sweltering under record temperatures as the Fourth of July holiday weekend gets underway.
The extreme heat will continue on Friday as the hottest spell of the year so far sends the mercury soaring to levels not seen, in some areas, in decades.
The heatwave could disrupt a busy weekend as US President Donald Trump hosts a celebration marking America’s 250th birthday and multiple World Cup matches take place outdoors.
It follows an unprecedented spell of early summer heat across Europe, with record highs across the continent.

Venezuelans accuse government of negligence over earthquake response | BBC News
More than 1,700 people have been confirmed killed in the twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela last week.
Delcy Rodriguez, the country’s interim president, has described it as the most brutal natural catastrophe in her country’s history.
Tens of thousands of people are estimated to be missing and anger against the government is growing. Residents say rescue operations were slow to start and were sorely inadequate.
The BBC’s International Correspondent Yogita Limaye reports from La Guaira, the coastal town hardest hit by the earthquakes.

Venezuela earthquakes kill at least 32, with 700 injured | BBC News
Back-to-back earthquakes have killed at least 32 people in Venezuela, with at least 700 injured, acting President Delcy Rodríguez says.
The quakes, which had magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, hit an area west of the capital Caracas, and could be felt as far away as Bogota, Colombia.
Venezuela was celebrating a national holiday, and many people were at home when the quakes struck at 18:04 local time (23:04 BST).
Buildings are without power and the metro system is completely closed as rescuers search through the rubble for survivors.
