I believe that one of the worst things or calamities that can befall a country is having a dictator for a leader. The reasons are obvious, such a person would only act in his or her own self interest and would show no compassion for the masses while pushing an agenda of his or hers, or even of the ruling party.
It is unfortunate that once again Trudeau has shown us that he is that kind of leader. Back when he invoked the Emergencies Act, there were discussions on whether such a heavy power should be given to authorities for something as non violent as the Freedom Convoy. I mean the truckers and fellow Canadians were only protesting their disapproval of Trudeau’s CO VID 19 vaccine mandates and restrictions. There was no reason for him to invoke that Act when these protesters were unarmed but he did so anyway.
As usual, he came out to claim that he did so in the interest of the people, but interesting cabinet documents have revealed otherwise. Documents originating from Trudeau’s cabinet bore proof of the fact that Trudeau was indeed informed of a potential breakthrough in talks with the protesters by his national security and intelligence adviser, Jody Thomas. In fact, Thomas had told not only Trudeau but the rest of his cabinet that a settlement between the government and the protesters could well be on the horizon.
Before I go further, I would like to say that these documents didn’t come easy. And for information that was labelled secret and was all about the cabinet’s decision on invoking the Act, that is understandable. The documents were only released after several civil liberty groups pressured the attorney general into doing so, and if not for that, God knows who else we might have heard this truth.
The cabinet documents include minutes from three meetings of the Incident Response Group which is actually a committee of ministers and senior officials chaired by Trudeau himself. The documents also show that the committee had been discussing the possibility of invoking the act as early as the 10th of February, four days before Trudeau invoked the Emergencies Act. The documents also include minutes from a cabinet meeting at 8:30 p.m. on February 13th, during which Thomas briefed the cabinet on the situation of the protest in Ottawa as well as border blockades at several Canada U.S. border crossings held in solidarity with the convoy.
