Brexit negotiations: Barnier urges more ‘clarity’ from the UK- BBC News
The EU’s chief Brexit negotiator has urged the UK for more “clarity” on where it stands on key issues such as citizens rights and the “divorce bill”.
Michel Barnier said progress had been made in talks with David Davis in areas where the UK position was clear.
But there were still differences on how citizens’ residence rights will be “guaranteed” and how it will maintain the common travel area in Ireland.
He was speaking at a media conference at the end of the second week of talks.

Two people have been wounded in a shooting near the White House, including a suspect and possible bystander, law enforcement sources tell the BBC’s US partner CBS News.
It appears a person shot at Secret Service agents unsuccessfully, and the agents returned fire, the sources say.
FBI director Kash Patel says the Secret Service is currently responding to the incident.

Negotiators for the US and Iran have agreed a framework of a deal that would extend their ceasefire for 60 days and launch negotiations on the future of Iran’s nuclear programme, US sources say.
The agreement comes amid continued strikes and accusations of ceasefire violations, with tensions still high across the region.
Talks are also said to include potential changes to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy route.

More than three months after the US and Israel first began their war with Iran, Washington and Tehran have reached an initial agreement to bring about a more long-term end to hostilities.
US President Donald Trump has said it paves the way for what he called the “toll-free” opening of the Strait of Hormuz. He called on ships to start their engines and “let the oil flow”.
The full text of the deal has not yet been released. Pakistani mediators say the agreement will be officially signed in Switzerland on Friday 19 June.
