The unrecognised micronation is bankrolled by some of the wealthiest men in crypto and it runs on an idea they are trying to export – that government itself can be replaced with blockchain technologies.

Citizens vote on laws and referendums using digital tokens, and the voting itself is automatically tallied and enforced by code, rather than counted by officials.

The US says it hit 90 targets, in a second day of strikes on Iran after Donald Trump earlier threatened to “hit them hard” .

Several Gulf nations have since reported apparent Iranian attacks – this included explosions in Bahrain’s capital Manama, Kuwait intercepting missiles and drones, and Qatar issuing a security alert.

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Iran’s chief negotiator with the US, said America “still hasn’t learned that bullying and breaking promises are no longer cost-free”.

Iranian media reported that explosions were heard in areas along the country’s southern coast and that strikes have hit Iranian-controlled islands in the Gulf.

Iran said it responded with retaliatory attacks on US military sites in Bahrain and Kuwait in the early hours of Wednesday.
