The BBC’s David Stern explains why Ukrainian politician Vitaly Zhuravsky was thrown into a bin by a mob. He told Ukrainian TV he needs to recover “morally, physically and psychologically” after the incident. Footage on Tuesday showed Vitaly Zhuravsky, Economic Development party deputy and former adviser to ousted Ukrainian President Yanukovich, being held down by a mob outside parliament. Mr Zhuravsky authored a bill in January severely tightening restrictions on anti-government protesters.

BP’s profits for the first three months of the year have more than doubled following a surge in oil prices since the beginning of the Iran war.

US President Donald Trump claims that Iran has told the US it is in a state of “collapse” and would like the US to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, a superyacht linked to one of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s key allies has sailed through the strait, despite the ongoing blockade of the critical shipping channel.

Was a secret US mission behind the F-15E jet downed in Iran? | The Security Brief

Published

on

Why was the F-15E so deep inside Iran?

What was going on close to Isfahan, where a large amount of Iran’s enriched uranium was last believed to be held?

There are reports that 100 US Special Forces operators were flown there.
There is some speculation that it may have been part of a secret operation to grab the uranium, that came unstuck when the jet was downed.

Exactly what happened is unclear, but there is enough footage circulating online to raise real questions about the initial account of what was going on.

The Security Brief takes a closer look at that dramatic rescue operation – and some of the questions that have arisen since.
