Bicycles lighting the night in Venice Beach – BBC News

Published

on

What happens when you apply thousands of LED lights to a bicycle? You fit right in with Venice, California locals. Venice Beach, which served as a US hippy hub of the 1960s, is now seeing dozens of locals cruising its boardwalk late at night with brightly glowing rides.
The bicycle enthusiasts say they fit right in with the hundreds of performers, artists and musicians that already call Venice Beach home. BBC Pop Up’s Matt Danzico is off the road this month and exploring his new home in Southern California.

I love riding my bike at night. Sure, it might not be the coolest bike in the world, but I still think it's pretty alright with the wheel lighting it currently has (front wheel blue lights, rear wheel green). Plus a little under frame red light bar.

Lebanese army says troops deploying in ‘pilot zone’ after Israeli withdrawal | BBC News

Published

on

Lebanon’s army said its troops are deploying to a “pilot zone” in the south of the country following the withdrawal of Israeli forces under a US-brokered agreement reached last month.

Engineering units entered the village of Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh in Nabatieh district on Tuesday morning, the army command announced.

Later, it said Israeli forces had opened fire in the vicinity of the troops. Israel’s military said warning shots had been fired after the troops crossed into the Israeli-declared “security zone”.

Spanish PM says wildfires are a ‘painful expression’ of climate emergency | BBC News

Published

Wildfires continue to cause uncertainty for Spanish and French residents as more than 300,000 people have had to leave their homes.

The French interior minister said the Gironde wildfire has “a life of its own” and that firefighters are facing an “unprecedented situation”, while people in Bordeaux are growing “anxious and fearful”, one resident said, with the blaze around nine miles (15 km) from the outskirts of the city.

Over the border, Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez visited Valencia where more wildfires have broken out and said that the country was suffering under the effects of climate change.
