Vintage in Pills JEAN PAUL GAULTIER Spring 2006 Couture Paris – Fashion Channel
Jean Paul Gaultier structured this collection around references to Greece, incorporating elements associated with traditional and classical dress into contemporary silhouettes. Models appeared with high topknots and dark sunglasses, reinforcing a uniform, graphic styling.
Garments referenced the foustanella through pleated short white skirts, while draped “goddess” dresses echoed classical statuary. Cropped vests and harem pants introduced folkloric elements, reworked through precise tailoring and controlled proportions. Corsetry appeared in structured bustiers, including finely pleated white versions paired with navy trousers.
Gold embroidery was applied with density and precision, avoiding rustic finishes, while chiffon dresses were layered and draped to create volume and fluid movement. A pink multi-layered chiffon gown demonstrated tiered construction with gradual buildup of fabric. Bubble silhouettes and fitted bodices contrasted with looser, pleated components.
