Israel vows to continue ‘difficult’ military operation in Gaza | BBC News

Published

on

The Israeli military has vowed to continue its operation in Gaza, but admitted it is “protracted” and “difficult”.

A spokesman said over the weekend it was expanding its “ground operations in the southern and northern Gaza Strip”.

Meanwhile, the US said Joe Biden spoke to the Israeli PM and emphasised the “critical need” to protect civilians.

In response, Benjamin Netanyahu said the war would go on until all Israeli goals were achieved.

Yes, Israel has been under siege by hostile, belligerent arab muslim nations since 1948: the 1967 attack, the 1973 attack and so on to October 7 genocide committed by Hamas, and the criminal abduction of 240 human beings. That genocide included gang rape, mutilation, torture, beheading of humans and animals, burning families alive, sadistic murder, all of which compete with nazi atrocities, so yes Israel, the size of New Jersey, a democratic state, will fight to defend its right to exist and against annihilation.

As for the unverified casualties of gazan civilians, helpfully supplied by Hamas to coax along the anti semitic narrative so welcomed by BBC, well how many celebrated the barbarous atrocities on October 7 and supported the jihad goal? I am willing to bet that 90% of the bbc arab audience also support the annihilation of Israel and the Jewish people.

In a heart-wrenching statement, the Government Media Office in Gaza revealed that the Israeli occupation forces handed over the mutilated bodies of 80 martyrs after stealing their organs, adding that the bodies were unidentified and the occupation refused to specify the names of these martyrs or the places from which they were stolen.

According to international law, whoever received a warning to leave combat/terrorists zones, and chose to stay, has no one to blame but himself.
Gazans choose to serve as a human shield to the Hamas-isis murderers, Rapists and kidnappers. The Jihado-Islams believe that they will receive 72 virgins in heaven if they die as "shahids".

A lot of people say that the West is hypocritical in criticizing Russia and defending Israel.

    1) Ukraine didn't conduct a large terrorist attack in Russia that killed 1400 civilians as Hamas did in Israel on October 7th.
    2) "This happened 75 years ago" argument. Well, the Arabs started '48 war after rejecting UN partition plan and invaded Israel from all sides. After they lost, some Arabs got displaced to Gaza and West Bank and accepted Egyptian and Jordanian citizenship without declaring independence.
    3) Ukraine never had a plan of "pushing the Russians into the sea" or deny its existence.

They don’t care if they kill every person in Gaza. They had 40 million Jews killed in the holocaust. This is their reason to exact revenge, and they will not stop. So, get used to this genocide.

I think our media and others owe Jeremy corbyn an apology . He has defended the Palestinian people’s rights for a long time only to be crucified by our media and ruling elite and accused of antisemitism. Now we know without doubt that according to Israel anyone who disagrees with them is antisemitic.

Israel is not occupying Gaza. Israel left Gaza in 2005 and the people voted Hamas in place and killed all members of Fatah (a Palestinian group).
Hamas was since responsible for most of the aggression.
Most of the land border is closed *like land borders with any other country*. Some of Gaza's joint fence with Egypt is also closed from Egypt's side.

Israel justifiably wants to control air and sea routes (while allowing them to fish) to avoid getting intake of more munitions.
Regardless, they were not lacking a thing before October 7th – goods that are not meant for war were brought in daily.
Israel, despite the terrorist actions by Hamas was providing water, electricity and allowed the work of Palestinians inside Israel.
All the meanwhile Gaza has been receiving billions of dollars from charities around the world, with Hamas taking the lion share of the money for weapons, rockets and massive underground tunnels below the city.

Gaza had all the opportunities to become Hong Kong or Singapore and chose the way of terror.
Hamas has brought this tragedy upon the Palestinian people, drawing peace ever further.

    January 26, 2024 at 8:46 am

Three months in and Gazans and foreign aid workers alike are still trapped in Gaza as human shields and hostages for Hamas. The UN complains a lot about Israel, but maybe instead they could actually get these people out of the war zone safely into Egypt. Or at least provide enough supplies for them. Israel even had to open two border crossings to help provide aid to Gaza, since the UN can't get that done. If there ever was an epic failure of the UN it is right now, in Gaza.

The free speech dilemma over Hasan Piker | Top Comment Podcast

Published

on

When Twitch streamer Hasan Piker was denied entry into the UK this week, it rekindled a conversation around the Home Office’s approach to free speech. From Kanye West to Valentina Gomez, the list of prominent names who have seen their travel plans derailed in recent months is growing, with commentators across the political spectrum accusing the government of overreaching. Piker, whose highly critical stance on Israel has led to disputed allegations of antisemitism, says he is being targeted for his position on the war in Gaza.

On this episode, Matt and Marianna explain why many young people in particular are outraged by the decision, and consider whether some of his more inflammatory comments should be considered less extreme in the amplified environment of social media.

Top Comment is hosted by Marianna Spring and Matt Shea.

Trump tells BBC: ‘If I tell Netanyahu to do something he does it’ | BBC News

Published

on

The US President Donald Trump has told the BBC that if he tells Israel’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu “to do something, he does it”.

The president was speaking to the BBC’s North America Editor Sarah Smith in a telephone interview, following the recent new round of hostilities between Israel and Iran.

Israel had launched attacks on Iran’s capital Tehran on Sunday, in apparent defiance of a demand from the White House to comply with the fragile ceasefire in force since April. Israel said the action was in retaliation for attacks by the Iranian backed Hezbollah militia group in Southern Lebanon.

Iran responded to the airstrikes by firing multiple missiles at Israel, the first such attack since April.

Hours before Israel launched its attacks, President Trump had declared “I call the shots” and had instructed Benjamin Netanyahu to comply with the ceasefire.

The President told the BBC that Israel had already launched its attacks, at the time when he had requested that Israel exercise restraint. Donald Trump said he had persuaded Mr Netanyahu to return to the ceasefire, telling him, “we have to use sense. We’re very close to signing a very good deal” with Iran.

Reeta Chakrabarti presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Sarah Smith, Wyre Davies and Jeremy Bowen.

How a Belfast knife attack led to violent protest | Global News Podcast

Published

on

Violent anti-immigration protests have taken place in Belfast after a Sudanese man was charged with attempted murder, in connection with a horrific knife attack.

Hundreds of men, dressed in black and wearing masks, took to the streets of the Northern Irish capital. Homes and cars were set on fire, as some protestors reportedly went door to door, searching for immigrants. The scene was described as a “race-based pogrom” by Social Democratic and Labour Party leader Claire Hanna. Prime Minister Keir Starmer has appealed for calm.

There are reports that the protests were organised by far-right leaders in other parts of the UK, intent on stirring up anti-immigrant sentiment.

This comes just days after protests in England, over the murder of Henry Nowak and his treatment by police in the moments before his death. Both cases have highlighted the growing political division over race, multiculturalism and immigration in the UK.

We speak to our UK political correspondent Rob Watson.
