Digital notepad ‘feels like real paper’ – BBC News

Published

on

A Norwegian start-up is developing a digital paper tablet it hopes will appeal to “paper people”. The device – called ReMarkable – can be written on using a stylus and is textured to feel like real paper. The BBC’s Chris Foxx asked the company’s Magnus Wanberg why people choose his device over a fully-featured tablet computer.

How much is a replacement stylus $200 and what happens after they stop making stylus or go out of business or get brought out and the new owners drop the product so they don't have to spend money on support

I am waiting for the day when I can actually do programming on E-Ink devices. Continuously staring at this blue light screen is pissing off.

These are always far too expensive to be ever more than a niche product.
No one (apart from the uber wealthy) will ever pay more for one of these than a tablet with less functionality just because it feels a little bit more like paper.

I totally don't understand how they managed to create this kind of attention for their product. There are already very cheap solutions for exactly that purpose. The screen here is not even good. The pen is nothing more than a normal stylus with known issues, such as lag, parallax and imprecision. Would love to see the jitter line test here, this is where most cheap digital drawing products fail. And then its gonna be that expensive? How technophob must u be to spend a few hundred euros just to avoid writing on an LCD screen.

Make it work like a usb stick without internet at all and I’ll buy it. If you require an account then it is not like paper. Paper doesn’t ask me what my email is.

Inside Trump’s ‘Project Freedom’ plan to open the Strait of Hormuz | Global News Podcast

Published

on

We ask the BBC’s diplomatic correspondent Paul Adams about the strategy behind President Donald Trump’s Project Freedom – a plan for US forces to guide stranded ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

On Tuesday, the US Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth said the US had established “a powerful red, white and blue dome” of defence over the Strait as a “gift to the world”, and that two American commercial ships had already made the crossing.

There is growing concern that the operation could jeopardise the fragile ceasefire between Washington and Tehran. US Central Command has said that since the start of Project Freedom, the Iranian military has fired at American naval and commercial ships. Iran has also resumed firing missiles at the United Arab Emirates, and is suspected of targeting a South Korean cargo vessel anchored in the Strait of Hormuz.

Washington’s top general, Dan Caine, has said that the latest Iranian attacks have fallen below the threshold of restarting major combat operations, but that American forces were ready to resume such operations.

Did Donald Trump save eight Iranian women from execution? #BBCNews

Published

on

US President Donald Trump claimed that his intervention helped save eight women arrested in Iran from the death penalty. Iran responded by saying that none of the women Trump mentioned were ever facing execution and accused the president of fake reports. The BBC’s Chief International Correspondent Lyse Doucet is reporting from Tehran on condition that none of her material is used on the BBC’s Persian Service. These restrictions apply to all international media organisations operating in Iran.
