World’s largest vaccine producer will not resume export of jabs – BBC Newsnight

Published

The world’s largest vaccine manufacturer in India – the Serum Institute – has said it won’t start sending jabs abroad again until at least the end of this year. Please subscribe HERE http://bit.ly/1rbfUog

Despite exporting vaccines to more than 50 countries, India is in the middle of its own medical emergency.

While the country deals with its Covid crisis, they’ve decided to halt vaccine exports, until at least the end of this year, to focus on their domestic plight.

This comes as a blow to COVAX, the global body which aims to deliver vaccines to poorer countries, and there are concerns over how many lives this lack of distribution could cost.

Sima Kotecha reports.

Is Israel collapsing a US-Iran deal over Lebanon? | BBC News

Published

on

The US and Iran still need to work out several sticking points before an agreement on the war can be reached, Vice-President JD Vance has said.

Asked by the BBC if President Donald Trump was close to signing a deal, Vance said it was too early to say “when or if” the two sides would finalise an agreement.

Meanwhile, waves of Israeli strikes have hit southern Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah infrastructure, according to the Israeli military.

The escalation threatens to derail talks aimed at ending the war between the US and Israel on one side and Iran on the other.

Iran insists that any deal must also cover Lebanon. Israel says it reserves the right to continue to fight the threat from Hezbollah.
