My wife just made these spicy pancakes for dinner…… As I don't like the taste if ginger she used green and yellow peppers instead. As vegetarians we don't eat eggs or used them as an ingredient. Instead she used chickpea flower as a substitute. The pancakes were 👌🏻 For the dipping sauce we used mint leaves instead of coriander and the fragrant taste was so enjoyable.

You can never go wrong with a Gordon Ramsay recipe and his passion for Indian Food is admirable.

So he substituted the dosa, a staple Indian breakfast pancake made with fermented rice flour, with wheat flour and egg and called it spicy potato pancake. Huh. So typically British!

Everyone saying how long this takes, if you don't have lots of time in the morning but you want a hearty breakfast, prepare the ingredients the night before. It's quite relaxing actually doing prep at night.

  15. @Anan883

    January 24, 2024 at 8:07 am

Ya it's a very staple Indian breakfast. It's called aloo paratha with hari chutney. We sometimes make the pancakes with chickpea flour which is healthier.

I made those today for brunch on Family Day. This recipe is amazing! The only correction I made was I added more oil when frying garlic, cumin, ginger and chilly instead of adding pure oil in the batter, so the batter oil was infused by all those flavors

The batter is not prepared in this way for masala dosa. . The batter should be prepared in this way. soaking raw rice and urad dal in ratio of 4:1 with 1 tablespoon fenugreek for a day and then grind it with salt
Again keep it overnight for precipitation. Now comes the dosa batter with its perfect taste.
It's really an art to grind in perfect consistency with very little water.

    Ramsey making dosa.

    But why soft though ??

  35. @ashdandan

    January 24, 2024 at 8:07 am

A masala dosa and rava dosa rolled into one! Our Indian masala dosa is filled with a potato mix similar to the one in the recipe and the rava dosa is made like a thin crepe similar the pancake in the recipe and with the same seasonings. Only thing the dosa is more nutritious as the batter is made of rice and urad dhal.

If you find it strange that indians eat garlic in the morning, remember we consume lots of paan during the day
