More than 30 dead in blast in Afghan city of Mazar-i-Sharif – BBC News

Published

on

Dozens of people have been killed or injured in four explosions across Afghanistan on Thursday, local officials and journalists have said.

The first explosion tore through a Shia mosque in the city of Mazar-i-Sharif, where at least 30 people were killed and 87 were wounded, the BBC has been told.

The Islamic State group (IS) admitted carrying out the attack. The Taliban say they have defeated IS but the group remains a serious security challenge to Afghanistan’s new rulers.

The attack on the Mazar-i-Sharif mosque was carried out using a remotely detonated booby-trapped bag when the building was packed with worshippers, the IS jihadists said.

Secunder Kermani reports on the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the country since the Taliban took over.

I wonder whether they have armed guard, at these mosques from the Shia community as well as the Taliban guards. Plus they should import proper checking devices & install them at the entrance to these mosques. Plus strict frisking

This is all thanks to the billions worth of weapons and munitions purposely left by NATO (US, UK, EU). The white imperialism doesn't seem to stop anytime soon.

There is no indication that the Taliban would support the Hazara communities, if the foreign aid resumed. The Taliban has a history of oppression of the Hazara people.

Kamala Harris has told her first election campaign rally that American voters face “a choice between freedom and chaos”. She was speaking in the critical swing state of Wisconsin.

The most powerful Democrats in Congress, Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries, announced their support for Ms Harris shortly before the rally. Kamala Harris was launching her campaign with just 105 days to go before the election.
