Why can’t you drink the water in the wettest country in the Middle East?
Lebanon’s geography means it’s blessed with water but in the capital Beirut and its surroundings areas, more than 1.5 million people suffer from serious water shortages.
The government says it’s doing all it can to improve water supplies but many people think it’s not enough.

Seven people have died after a passenger boat capsized near northern Cyprus.
Search and rescue operations are under way to find 23 people missing, said Ünal Üstel, prime minister of the self-declared Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
He says 267 people were on board the vessel when it capsized, and 237 have been rescued.
The boat left from the northern Cypriot port of Kyrenia at 11:58 local time (09:58 BST) and officials said it capsized around four nautical miles into its journey to Turkey.

Ukraine’s progress against Russian forces in its southern regions of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia has been far more limited than its successes in the north-east.
Both sides come under regular fire as they rely heavily on artillery to push forward.
The crackdown on people who do not support Russian rule in occupied areas is rising, with soldiers going door-to-door to check on who lives in each house and whether they could be drafted into fighting for Russia.

The government has said it will exercise “extreme caution” over lifting the lockdown. Ministers stress it will be a gradual process, not a single leap to freedom. It comes as the Prime Minister prepares to address the nation, to set out the next phase in tackling the coronavirus pandemic.
Meanwhile major airlines have called for clarity after being told that the government will bring in a 14-day quarantine for anyone arriving in the UK, from any country apart from the Republic of Ireland.
The transport secretary Grant Shapps has called on people to walk and cycle to work, once the lockdown restrictions are eased in England. He said it was a “once-in-a-generation opportunity” to transform the way people get around.
Senior clerics are urging the government to act cautiously before allowing places of worship to reopen. All churches, mosques, synagogues and temples closed their doors almost two months ago.

lebanon hasnt got the know how to protect itself in the 21st century. it is fairness to those who claim it. lebanon is waiting n buying grain from ukraine. spending money when they could b stealing it. last boat shouldnt have gone back. it should have been siezed as a message. as uk fights russia l8 lebanon will be next 4 russia. it was key. goodbye

In Europe and elsewhere, governments are paying colossal sums to big corporations to help them avert bankruptcy. Whether they call it a “rescue package” or “quantitative easing,” in the end it’s all the same: the government pays companies to stay operative.
I don’t think it will work in the long run. It may keep companies afloat for another six months or a year, but as a rule, a government, any government, cannot sustain companies that cannot sustain themselves. In the end, the situation will blow up in a blast that will be worse than what it would have happened had the government let them fall naturally.
There is more to it than that. I don’t believe that a government can do anything good for its people. Civil servants, ministers, and deputy ministers always pull their own way and have their own interests in mind. Since everyone is inherently selfish, everyone has an ulterior motive that is not for the benefit of the public.
We cannot expect selfish people to do unselfish acts; it is like asking a tiger to become vegetarian. If it goes against nature and it won’t work. Therefore, asking people whose only focus is their own career to focus on other people’s well-being is unwise, unrealistic, and will invariably fail.
Socialists, capitalists, far right, or far left, they are all immersed in egoism. It is not their fault; it is human nature, and we should adjust our expectation from our leaders.
If we want a real and lasting positive change, we must transform human nature. Since our nature is selfish to the core, changing it is the only way out of the crises that the world is falling into nowadays. We will fall deeper and deeper until we realize that the problem is not the fuel we burn, the forests we cut, the water we pollute, or the people we kill. The problem is the cause of all those harms we are inflicting on nature and on each other: our inherent self-absorption. When we start working on changing ourselves rather than demanding everything and everyone else to change, we might be able to save ourselves before it is too late.

Just be careful if they do build the dam. The water also needs to go to the sea and filter there to help the wildlife. Take California as an example.

It’s a shame, their government should not have wasted all these years hating Israel and instead asked for their help in water management. Israel offered their help to South Africa as their water was disappearing and they refused. Israel recycles 87% of their sewage water. For those that hate Israel, hope that hate satisfies your thirst better than water.

I don't know where to start:
1. Lebanon has so many problems to even list them.
2. The dam was to be built on a earthquake line, on a callous land, hindiring it water collection ability. I donno why it was not mention. To hell with scientific reporting I guess.
3. The president want the Lebanese youth to leave, saying that whoever is not content with the situation can immigrate.
4. It is a MADHOUSE. Toxic water is the least of our concerns. Maybe it is time for us to die as a nation, as a people.

A close relative has the same issue, the water he receives is so toxic he has to buy a gallon of bottled water to bathe his baby. Its truly sad. He bought some filters so hopefully that works out!
