Iowa caucus: Republican rivals make last-ditch bids to cut Trump’s lead | BBC News
Donald Trump and his Republican rivals are making last-ditch pitches to win support in Iowa, hours before voters in the state will kick-off the 2024 race for the White House.
All of the candidates have urged voters to brave the extreme cold, as temperatures are forecast to fall as low as -30C (-20F).
A resounding victory in Iowa would cement Mr Trump’s frontrunner status.
His rivals, meanwhile, are seeking to establish themselves as the main alternative to the former president.

Americans are reacting to President Donald Trump’s escalating feud with Pope Leo XIV and the backlash surrounding an AI-generated image depicting the president as a Jesus-like figure, which has since been deleted.
On Monday, Trump posted a lengthy Truth Social message attacking the pontiff, who has been a vocal critic of the US and Israeli military operations in Iran.
He criticised the Pope, calling him “weak on crime” and “terrible for foreign policy”.
The Pope said on Monday that he has “no fear” of the Trump administration or “speaking out loudly of the message of the Gospel, which is what I believe I am here to do”.

He also said the war is “very close to over”, in a preview of an interview released by Fox News.
