Coronavirus: PM announcing strict new curbs on life in UK – BBC News

Published

on

The prime minister is announcing strict new curbs on life in the UK to tackle the spread of coronavirus.

From this evening people must stay at home except for shopping for basic necessities, daily exercise, any medical need and travelling to and from essential work.

Shops selling non-essential goods will also be shut and gatherings in public of more than two people who do not live together prohibited.

The UK death toll has reached 335.

If people do not follow the rules police will have the powers to enforce them, including through fines and dispersing gatherings, Boris Johnson said in a televised statement from Downing Street.

Other premises including libraries, playgrounds and outdoor gyms, and places of worship must also close immediately.

Parks will remain open for exercise but gatherings will be dispersed.

This speech is a bit of a slap in the face considering how they partied on numerous occasions during the lockdown and expected us to obey the lockdown.

I feel sad and sorry for the homeless, I know what its like, I know how it feels, life was really good until it all turned to s**t in 2020, Covid-19 has ruined everything, I lost my career to Covid-19, I may not work again, all through lockdown, I spent months living in anger and (swimming) in a pool of my own tears

Hawk Fire wildfire in Nevada expected to rage for another two days, say officials | BBC News

Published

on

US fire crews have reported progress in their efforts to tackle a large wildfire menacing the city of Reno, Nevada – saying the blaze is about a quarter contained.

The Hawk Fire, which began on Saturday, had spread over 15,000 acres by Monday, firefighters said.

Evacuation orders remain in place for 23,000 people, though other residents have now been allowed to return to their homes. Tens of thousands of other residents have been told to be ready to leave at any moment.

Officials are concerned that gusts of wind could drive the flames towards more homes. Unfavourable weather conditions are forecast for the next two days, meaning the fire could continue to burn during that timeframe.
