Iceland volcano: Lava flows destroy homes following eruption | BBC News

Published

on

Lava flows have destroyed several homes following a volcanic eruption in south-west Iceland.

A volcano on the Reykjanes peninsula erupted on Sunday, spilling molten rock into the town of Grindavik. The local population was evacuated.

Defences built after an eruption in December were breached in places, setting houses on fire. But by Monday the flow had almost stopped.

There is no danger to the rest of Iceland, officials have said.

    OdorlessVolcanoes:
Are Iceland's volcanoes odorless, or is the cold muting the aroma? Folks haven't checked in with odor updates, or breathing hazards and difficulties.

So sad… When you build on an active volcanic area or near known earthquake faultlines, in hurricane & tornado alleys , flood planes or mud/rock slide zones then it should come as NO surprise when a natural disaster occurs. Blindly assuming that it'll never happen to "you" is an unfortunate human condition…
I pray that these poor folks can recover quickly.
I lost my home in a hurricane, but I live about 20 miles inland from the Atlantic soooo🙄

A nation of dumb people who build houses around a volcano, then the volcano erupts and burns everything down, then they cry about it.

2024 is a big year for presidential elections in various countries. As an ordinary person, I would like to warn everyone, to choose a president you recognize, listen to his words but also watch his actions. Good leaders should respect human rights, and respecting personal privacy is the most basic principle. If you have used someone you have worked with before and you think his governance behavior is flawed, I suggest you choose carefully. People will not change.

Hmm! I wonder if this is a new volcano – relatively speaking – that has become active ? Someone did mention that nothing like this has happened in almost 800 years! Not quite on the same scale as perhaps in the mid 1990's – so air travel won't be affected by this eruption which is small scale. Still! Quite upsetting for the immediate village community in the area.

The problem with "All Of Us Are Strangers" is that neither Paul Mescal nor Andrew Scott are gay. Hooray for Hollywood!? Why won't they hire gay actors to play gay men, like they hire black actors to play black men? I wouldn't watch a movie about the jazz singer Billie Holiday played by Meryl Streep because Billie Holiday was black and Meryl Streep is white. Right? We are born gay just like people are born black. Being gay and being black isn't a lifestyle choice Hollywood; people don't choose to be born black, or gay. By having a straight actor like Paul Mescal portray a gay man in "All Of Us Our Strangers", Hollywood is saying being gay is a lifestyle choice. And it's not. And that's the problem. Officially Hollywood, says people are born gay, but their movies say otherwise. There is a river in Egypt called denial and, Hollywood is swimming in it. The other problem, is that since being bribed by banal gay marriage, gay men don't protest gay face movies anymore, they stopped protesting after Brokeback Mountain. Back in1976 in the Neil Simon movie "The Goodbye Girl" Richard Dreyfuss lands the role of Richard III, and when the Director of the play on Broadway says he wants him to play a gay Richard III, Richard Dreyfus says aren't you worried about Gay Liberation protesting the play? Well that's the problem gay men stopped protesting gay face movies because they're being told in school 'we're all equal'( except gay men we are unequal). Black people and Asian people would protest if Hollywood made movies where white actors portrayed them. Meryl Streep can't portray a Black or an Asian woman, but she can portray a white lesbian woman in a movie, because gay people won't protest. Gay men have been brainwashed in our schools to not care about straight actors portraying them in movies.

Who does Hollywood think we are? We are born gay aren't we? We don't choose to be gay it's not a lifestyle choice Paul Mescal.
