Shabana Mahmood has threatened to block Eritrean visas in a row over the east African country’s migrant return rate.
The Home Secretary has said she would bring in restrictions on Asmara unless it takes back its criminals and illegal migrants, most of whom arrive on small boats.
Eritrean VIPs and diplomats have already been stripped of their fast-track visa access to the UK after the Eritrean government reneged on an agreement to take back migrants refused asylum or convicted of crimes in the UK.
Now, Ms Mahmood has gone one step further, saying she would block visas for all Eritreans if the country refused to accept the return of its nationals with no right to be in the UK.

Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on the International Criminal Courts (ICC) and the UN over “transgender mutilization of children”.
Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the US President said: “It is equally unacceptable that, with all the genuine atrocities in the world, the UN’s top human rights officials spend their time criticising the United States for protecting our children from transgender mutilization and transgender insanity, and enforcing our immigration laws.”

The elephant in the room:
The number of prison workers involved in inappropriate relationships increased by 30 per cent since 2017 to more than 40 a year, according to data released under Freedom of Information laws.
During the same period, the number of female prison staff rose by 27 per cent to 15,000 – now accounting for 42 per cent of all staff – as part of a diversity drive.
