Ukraine frontline: the battle for Bakhmut – BBC News
For months the city of Bakhmut has been the epicentre of the war in Ukraine.
Almost all of the city’s 70,000 residents have fled.
Russia is conducting an onslaught on the city in an attempt to capture it but so far its Ukrainian defenders have held firm.
Bakhmut is strategically important and its fall would advance Russia’s hopes of capturing Kramatorsk and Slovyansk, key cities in Ukraine’s Donbas region.
Reeta Chakrabarti presents a BBC News at Ten special report from Yogita Limaye on the frontline in Bakhmut.

Floods have hit Australia’s largest city Sydney for the third time this year prompting evacuation warnings to 50,000 people.
Parts of Sydney have received about eight months of rain in four days.
Roads have been cut off, some houses are under water and thousands have been left without power.
Widespread flooding across Australia – driven by a La Niña weather pattern – has killed more than 20 people this year, many in New South Wales.

Saudia Arabia vows ‘serious response’ to Houthi attacks and other stories | Global News Podcast
The Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen have continued to fire missiles towards Saudi Arabia, after a number of deadly attacks on Riyadh’s main international airport.
Almost all flights to and from the airport have been suspended. The Houthis say their actions are in retaliation for “brutal Saudi aggression” against areas they control in western Yemen.
Saudi Arabia’s energy minister Prince Abdul Aziz bin Salman told a conference in Riyadh that the seriousness of the attacks required an equally serious response from the Kingdom.

It's an old report from last winter, when the Ukrainians were given false hope by the Western powers instead of negotiating a settlement with the Russians they lead them on to thousands of unnecessary deaths.
Now it's May moving into summer an it is only hours if it hasn't already happened that the Wagner Group and the regular Russian forces are mopping up the last of the resisters.
War is hell and it is the Western powers that bear the greatest responsibility for not negotiating a settlement to this conflict that they initiated at the maidan Coup.
So before you cry too many tears over this tragedy find out who initiated and has perpetuated it.
The West will never have to accept their blame for this but the world will still know where to place the blame.

Russia’s Brutish Plan:
Round up conscripts;
Properly intimidate them;
Minimally outfit them;
Thrust them against Ukrainians
so as to force them to reveal their positions;
Bombard the Ukrainians;
Then advance and repeat the process
as necessary until at least
a half million Russian troops are dead.
Note: In order for this to work, an unlimited supply of both men and artillery shells is needed, hence the importance of security forces on the home front and the call to China for lethal aid.

Russian drone films a group of Ukrainian soldiers, in this group three Ukrainians have their hands tied behind them, are taken to a trench and shot, as it seems they would desert.
