Hate Won’t Win | BBC and Sky join forces on social media abuse
BBC Sport and Sky Sports have come together to send a zero-tolerance message on online hate, as part of the Hate Won’t Win campaign.
Presenters and pundits including Gary Lineker, Alex Scott, Isa Guha, Micah Richards, Gary Neville, Nasser Hussain, Ebony Rainford-Brent and Gabby Logan have voiced their support.
The initiative was initially launched in August 2020 on BBC Sport channels, and since then hundreds of accounts have been blocked and reported, and thousands of comments hidden or deleted.
In October 2020, Sky Sports launched its campaign Hate Won’t Stop Us. It might sound like a noble aim, but who decides what "hate" is?
Is "hate" objecting to the politicisation of sport?
Is "hate" disagreeing with someone else's opinions?
Is "hate" freedom of expression?
Is "hate" pointing out unfortunate truths?
Is "hate" anything that offends, whether intentional or not?
Is "hate" advertising jobs that are only open to people with certain skin colours?
Is "hate" holding the opinion that fairies don't live at the bottom of your garden?
Is "hate" saying "No thank you"?

The fact people can find so much to disagree with in an advert promoting tolerance and respect in sport is just disgusting. If you are commenting on this and trying to defend hate in sport for ‘freedom of speech’ against the ‘thought police’ then you need to take a good hard look at urself. They aren’t politicising sport, they are trying to stop people from doing shit like throwing bananas on the pitch. If you can find something to disagree with in that then you are a racist. End of.

All for doing something to stop racist online abuse. But can we please stop openly talking about making people link their ID to social media accounts? It sounds like something the CCP would do.
