Ukraine urges UN to do more to rescue civilians – BBC News
The evacuation of about 100,000 people trapped in Mariupol will only succeed with the help of the UN, Ukraine’s deputy prime minister has said.
Iryna Vereshchuk told BBC the UN needed to become involved in arranging humanitarian corridors, saying it was the “only organisation with the capacity and strength to prevent death” but was so far “only observing events”.
United Nations Secretary General António Guterres is to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Tuesday.
Speaking before the visit was announced, Vereshchuk said “evacuation is only possible with the assistance of the UN. The UN and Guterres need to get involved and arrange corridors”.

Saudi Arabia has said three people have been killed after the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen attacked Riyadh airport on Thursday.
It’s the latest in series of attacks on airports across the country, as the conflict escalates between Saudi-supported Yemeni government forces and the Houthis.
Elsewhere a US Treasury official has told the BBC that economic pressure from America has Tehran ‘on its knees’, and they hope the tactic will end the current regime in Iran.
Meanwhile Iran’s president has said his country will not walk away from peace negotiations, despite threats from the United States.

The former leader of the Democratic Unionist Party, Jeffrey Donaldson, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for a series of child sex offences, including rape.
Donaldson was convicted in June of 18 offences, which he committed against two women when they were children, between 1985 and 2008.
Reading victim statements, the sentencing judge said one woman grew up feeling ashamed, while the other said: “every day I pray God will let me die”.

Everyone is realizing that Zelensky is a puppet manipulated by the USA.
The Ukrainian people do not want war and the USA sending weapons.
USA sends weapons and UKRAINE puts the dead's [ Soldiers and civilians ] and battlefield [ Destroyed infrastructure and economy ].
This war there is no way for Ukraine to win.
Meanwhile Ukrainian soldiers and civilians dying, even many do not want to fight.
If Ukraine dealt directly with Russia they would reach a peace agreement, as they were achieving a few days ago, but the USA does not want to, that is why it is manipulating Zelensky.
Where does Zelensky get that with weapons they won the war?
If one of the disadvantages is that he is fighting on his territory.
Perhaps the only thing that would gain is that the war lasts a little longer, which would lead to greater loss of soldiers and more intense destruction of Ukraine.
The truth does not make sense for Ukraine to continue to resist and it would be better for Ukraine and Russia to settle things directly.
The USA is only harassing this war for its own political convenience and wants the world to look down on Russia.
But I don't think it will work for it, because most of the world is already well informed and is aware of the intentions behind this harassment of the war by the USA.
