BBC Radio London presenter Eddie Nestor has talked more about race on his radio show this year than in the whole of the last 18 years.
As his child is about to turn 12 he talks to other fathers about how to talk to his children about race.

The US said it has hit “dozens” of Iranian military targets in overnight attacks, in response to Iran hitting commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
The military said it struck “air-defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone capabilities, and small boats”, using aircraft, ships, and drones – including “one-way attack sea drones for the first time”.
“The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime corridor for global trade,” the US military said. “Iran does not control it”.
In response, Iran said it targeted US bases in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait and also radar systems in Oman.

President Donald Trump has said the US is reinstating a naval blockade of Iranian ports and will impose a 20% charge on all cargo shipped through the Strait of Hormuz following days of escalating strikes between the two countries.
He said this would stop “Iran’s ships or customers” from entering or leaving the key oil shipping route, but “all other countries will have fair and open use of the Strait”.
Iran’s foreign minister later said whoever provides safe passage “should be compensated for this service”, but Iran would remain the strait’s “GUARDIAN” – using Trump’s word.
Tehran and Washington clashed over the strait’s control after exchanging strikes in the region overnight and on Monday.
The US said it carried out strikes against military targets in Iran, targeting air defence systems, coastal radars, and missile and drone sites. Iran said it responded by striking US military bases in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain, and radars in Oman.

Explosions have been heard near two Iranian port cities, Bandar Abbas and Bushehr, state media has reported.
It comes after another night of strikes between the US and Iran, with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps saying it hit two UAE tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and targeted US facilities in Jordan and Bahrain.
The UAE called the attack “brazen”, adding that an Indian crew member was killed and eight others were injured.
Meanwhile, the US military says it completed strikes on targets aimed at degrading “Iran’s ability to attack commercial shipping” – Iranian state media reports three people were killed.

The US military said it was carrying out a new wave of strikes on targets in Iran. It said the aim of the attacks was to degrade Iran’s ability to attack shipping in the strait of Hormuz. It came ass the US Navy resumed its blockade of Iran’s ports.
Iran said that control of the strait of Hormuz was required for its national security and it will exercise sovereignty over the key shipping lane, whatever the cost.
President Trump announced that he was scrapping a plan he had announced a day earlier, for placing a 20% toll or tariff on all cargos passing through the strait of Hormuz.

One heart one brain !! My kids never once question race or the way a person looks!! Stop the pigeon holes. I'm looking for a job and have endless forms to full forms out detailing my appearance, white ,white Irish, white Scottish, Chinese,black, black Caribbean , Mongolian,Hindi ,hindi white, it went on and on I think there were 50 options. I understand why that form came about, governments mistakes, disgusting acts of the human race; and I'm not trying to steal anyone culture ,pride, or religion. definitely don't want anyone to miss out on opportunities!! If you think about it why do my young kids and others never question or notice appearance. It's only when they went to school they came and asked me about appearances of they friends,I'd say forgot those descriptions their just your friend.
2021 and still we have silly forms pigeon holes just promoting ,teaching differences. Embrace one tick box Human!! let's teach love rather than difference. Then who knows maybe these trolls will never come about in the first place!! I know this much who ever you are no one's better than you. big love

I am black, what is with how do I teach my children about race, just get on with life. Enjoy your culteral food, music, dancing, history, melanin etc etc. I would rather be in Barbados than the UK, only because the whole vibe is my thing and with the Grace of God I will be there one day. But being in the UK isn't bad either, we aren't oppressed! We might need to work twice as hard, but I know for sure the way I was brought up by my mother, if I were in any other country in the world I would be finished, and the UK has had my back even if I have got on its nerves. I do appreciate the UK and I love being black. Look at Lewis Hamilton, you can be what you want if parents dig down deep and work hard, instead of crying about being black and making excuses for your failures.

Teach them the History of the World. Then Tell them there are good and bad in all Races and Skin Colours.
Then … reassure them that there are many opportunities to be had and the better they strive in education and life, the better chances they will have in all aspects of it. Teach them that the scurge of racism is vastly present in 'ALL' Colours and Races (to each other!) and that the Media are so guilty of stirring up such hatred on a grand scale! Google 'Red Ant, Black Ant' "Who shook that Jar!" Then (if you haven't already), pass on to them, the knowledge gleaned from it and how relevant it is to what is going on in the world right now! They will hopefully then be able to figure something out for themselves! Sending much hope to them for happy times 🤗

"Don't listen to anything they say on the telly, kids. They want to indoctrinate you, to enrage you and to weaponise your thinking for the benefit of this or that ideology, whichever one is trending higher on the political agenda that month. Just be a good human being and show respect; to yourself and to those around you. The rest is just noise". That would be a start.

But what is “race”. Both Nigerians and Ethiopians are usually black, but they are very different even if they are African. Same goes for Moroccans and Iranians, both “brown”, or Irish and Eastern Russian (Vladivostok). Skin colour means nothing so maybe stop focusing on that.

If you're white like me, just tell your kids "Your skin color is white so you will be treated with hostility by many people, including your own government. Unlike literally every other "group", yours will be openly lambasted if it ever acts in any organized manner, and you will be ridiculed if you don't smile and nod your head at propaganda designed to demonize you."

conversation with my children about race: everyone is different. Never judge someone by how they look because you might be surprised to discover their uniqueness. Everyone has limitless potential if they strive to discover it. This can be proved. There are people who wrongfully judge people or think less of people by how they look. This is a mistake. You ought to meet someone and allow them to present themself to you and then decide how closely you should relate with them. It’s ok to surround yourself with positive, loving and beneficial people while keeping those who do not add to your wellbeing at a distance. Appearance does indicate someone’s personality but skin is unique. Everyone is different. Side note: clothing is a greater indicator of someone’s uniqueness over skin color. Worldwide.

Anyone who goes about their daily life constantly fixated on race is a very unpleasant and discontented person. Same goes for gender or religion or really any label to be honest. I was raised to treat everyone with respect and consideration (compassion) we are all brothers and sisters. Ultimately we are connected. I believe that connection comes from God.

The New Zealand government has publicly apologised to the Chinese people for the immigration issues they experienced.
Public apologies were also made to Pacific Islanders who were subjected to racist dawn raids during the eighties.
Police would arrive early in the morning when people were sleeping and walk in with their boots on and bring their dogs inside.
