Global coronavirus cases surpassed 400,000, according to data collated by Johns Hopkins University. Almost 17,000 people have now died, while more than 100,000 have recovered
Italy reported a jump of 743 deaths in the past day – 141 more than Monday
While the number of deaths has risen, the number of new infections appears to be slowing down
India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has imposed a nationwide lockdown in an attempt to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
The restrictions came into force at midnight local time (18:30 GMT) and will be enforced for 21 days.
“There will be a total ban on venturing out of your homes,” Mr Modi said in a televised address.
He appealed for people not to panic – but crowds quickly mobbed stores in the capital, Delhi, and other cities.
Correspondents say it is not clear how – or even if – people will now be allowed out to buy food and other essentials.

The number of people missing in Nepal after the massive flash flood on Wednesday has risen to 4,247- with at least 903 people known to have died.
The number of missing is a sharp rise from 2,502, which was announced on Sunday. Of those missing, 3,655 are Nepali citizens, with 592 foreigners unaccounted for.
In Tibet, the official death toll is 16, with 546 reported missing, according to Chinese state media.

President Volodymr Zelensky has appealed to Germany to supply Ukraine with tanks, as leaders meet to discuss further aid.
Defence leaders from a number of Nato members are meeting at the US air base in Ramstein, Germany to discuss sending further aid ahead of an anticipated Spring offensive by Russia.
Germany is under increasing pressure from other countries to supply its Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, as the UK prepares to send a dozen Challenger 2 tanks.
“If you have Leopard [tanks], then give them to us, these leopards won’t go through Russia. We’re defending ourselves.”, he told public TV in Germany.

Of course Trump is optomistic, would you prefer he went into full panic mode infront of the cameras? The American people aren't stupid, they know there are bad days ahead but most do appreciate the effort their government is putting in to plan for a return to normalcy. As new data comes in, a better timeline can be put fourth. What we in the states find confusing are the constant reports from news media personalities seemingly wanting the government to fail just because they're not a fan of trump.
Why would anyone listen to thre W.H.O.? The organisation who tweeted out on jan 14th "Chinese authorities have found no clear evidence of human to human transmissions". The very next day America's first documented Covid-19 patient arrived back in the US after traveling to Wuhan.
