Coronavirus: Boris Johnson warns NHS in danger of being overwhelmed – BBC News
The UK’s Prime Minister has warned the National Health Service (NHS) will be overwhelmed unless the British people act together to slow the spread of coronavirus. Boris Johnson described the rising number of cases as “very stark and they are accelerating”. He added that the UK was two or three weeks behind Italy, which is registering thousands of deaths from the disease. The NHS has struck a deal with hospitals across England to utilise nearly their entire hospital capacity to help in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
Today the government asked shoppers in the UK to “be responsible” and think of others such as NHS workers, after panic-buying amid the coronavirus outbreak. Environment Secretary George Eustice said there was more than enough food to go around – but the challenge for shops was keeping shelves stocked.

The US said it has hit “dozens” of Iranian military targets in overnight attacks, in response to Iran hitting commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
The military said it struck “air-defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone capabilities, and small boats”, using aircraft, ships, and drones – including “one-way attack sea drones for the first time”.
“The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime corridor for global trade,” the US military said. “Iran does not control it”.
In response, Iran said it targeted US bases in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait and also radar systems in Oman.

President Donald Trump has said the US is reinstating a naval blockade of Iranian ports and will impose a 20% charge on all cargo shipped through the Strait of Hormuz following days of escalating strikes between the two countries.
He said this would stop “Iran’s ships or customers” from entering or leaving the key oil shipping route, but “all other countries will have fair and open use of the Strait”.
Iran’s foreign minister later said whoever provides safe passage “should be compensated for this service”, but Iran would remain the strait’s “GUARDIAN” – using Trump’s word.
Tehran and Washington clashed over the strait’s control after exchanging strikes in the region overnight and on Monday.
The US said it carried out strikes against military targets in Iran, targeting air defence systems, coastal radars, and missile and drone sites. Iran said it responded by striking US military bases in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain, and radars in Oman.

Explosions have been heard near two Iranian port cities, Bandar Abbas and Bushehr, state media has reported.
It comes after another night of strikes between the US and Iran, with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps saying it hit two UAE tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and targeted US facilities in Jordan and Bahrain.
The UAE called the attack “brazen”, adding that an Indian crew member was killed and eight others were injured.
Meanwhile, the US military says it completed strikes on targets aimed at degrading “Iran’s ability to attack commercial shipping” – Iranian state media reports three people were killed.

The US military said it was carrying out a new wave of strikes on targets in Iran. It said the aim of the attacks was to degrade Iran’s ability to attack shipping in the strait of Hormuz. It came ass the US Navy resumed its blockade of Iran’s ports.
Iran said that control of the strait of Hormuz was required for its national security and it will exercise sovereignty over the key shipping lane, whatever the cost.
President Trump announced that he was scrapping a plan he had announced a day earlier, for placing a 20% toll or tariff on all cargos passing through the strait of Hormuz.

Hey if we really want to show the brave NHS staff how TRULY grateful we are for them DIRECTLY putting their lives on the line for the nation, how about we take a tiny portion of the business bailout money and give all NHS staff free fuel, zero congestion charge, free parking, free food, a 1k bonus, no taxes for the next 12 months and a guaranteed 50% pay rise if not double. Does that show a lot more appreciation than hand clapping??? So many nurses I know are struggling single mothers. Maybe direct benefits would be better? Oh and how about guaranteeing that their pensions will be protected from the vultures???

I will never want to be cared for by any doctor or nurse who has a big beard like the guy at 0:57, particularly not during any surgery, procedure or even a flu season. I don't want anyone to have a chance to breathe off one the facial hairs onto me when I'm sick. I had never seen any healthcare worker wear beards in Hong Kong.

Wake up Boris! First idea “herd immunity “ which is let’s get everyone sick while protecting the vulnerable. Little problem there..it’s not just the elderly and those with co-morbidity that get seriously ill or die. Look to Italy where a doctor reported removing ventilation from a 65 year old patient to use it for a 45 year old patient. South Korea did an outstanding job handling their outbreak ! We all need to isolate as much as possible to give the medical systems the time to find therapeutics and to produce needed supplies.

Send all the sick to designated hospitals, close the schools, limit all nonessential travel, stop social gatherings and increase testing to manage new outbreaks. Use drive in testing to protect the patient and the person testing. Track positive patients contacts through their phone. Follow South Korea’s example as much as possible. The UK has banded together before under enormous perilous circumstances and performed miracles. Great Leadership and public cooperation won the day. Friend from USA.
