Australian MP Helen Haines has been taken to hospital with “critical injuries” after she was hit by a car near her regional office in Wangaratta, Victoria, police have said.
“This wasn’t an accident – there was a deliberate act, it would appear,” said Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
Police have said they’re investigating whether it was “intentional” and a 43-year-old man, from nearby Tarrawingee, was arrested at the scene by a passer-by.

students shouldnt have to live with this looming fear, the fear of being hunted in their own school as they say in this video, the place where they thought they were safe. i looked this up, this ad was made by parents of victims of a 2012 shooting when a former student opened fire, killing 20 children. as a high school student i fear for my friends every day, wondering if something will happen while we are separated in different buildings, even the seemingly most insignificant sound, like a car backfiring or a distant siren, makes my stomach hurl.
