Conspiracy theories have thrived during the pandemic. Maybe you even have a friend or relative who’s brought one up in conversation. How can you talk to them without starting an argument – or sending them further down the rabbit hole?
The BBC’s specialist disinformation reporter Marianna Spring brought together a dad who got in touch with her about a coronavirus conspiracy theory and an expert in the field. They discussed fact and fiction, and demonstrated some tips on how to talk about conspiracy theories.

Ex-gang boss Duane “Keffe D” Davis sentenced for orchestrating Tupac Shakur’s murder | BBC News
Former gang boss Duane “Keffe D” Davis has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for orchestrating the murder of rapper Tupac Shakur in a drive-by shooting in 1996.
The key evidence in the case were Davis’ own words, in which he repeatedly and publicly acknowledged being inside the white Cadillac from where the deadly shots were fired.
A jury found him guilty in September of one count of murder with a deadly weapon. Davis has said he will appeal the verdict.
His conviction was the first in a cold case that has intrigued hip-hop fans for nearly 30 years.

Pope Leo XIV has been diagnosed with lung cancer and has had surgery to remove a lower lobe of his right lung, the Vatican has said in a medical bulletin.
The 71-year-old underwent a 90 minute operation on Tuesday at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital and was subsequently diagnosed with lung adenocarcinoma.
The lump was first detected during what the Vatican has described as “routine checks”.
Earlier, large crowds gathered outside the hospital to greet the Pope, with some waiting for several hours. They cheered greetings and well wishes as he passed, while he waved and smiled back through the lowered back window of his car.
He was then met by staff on the hospital steps. “I’m sorry,” one of them commiserated, to which the Pope gave a smile and a shrug. “We’re here for you,” he was assured.
In its statement, the Vatican said the whole lower lobe of the Pope’s right lung was removed “to ensure the procedure was radical”.
A Vatican source told Agence France-Presse news agency that further tests are being carried out to see if there was any sign the cancer had spread.
Leo XIV announced news of his operation to the world on Sunday, without at that time confirming that he was suffering from cancer. Speaking from the balcony in St Peter’s Square after delivering the traditional Angelus blessing, he said the nodule, or growth, on his lung was “contained” and had been found “at a very early stage”, but that doctors had advised him to have it removed.
Nodules are quite common and not necessarily cancerous, but after it was examined the medical team confirmed it was pulmonary adenocarcinoma, “as suspected by pre-operative tests”, the Vatican said. It said that the pontiff, who is generally thought to be fit, had no symptoms of infection or illness.

Hmmm yes the lab leak conspiracy theory – a conspiracy theory that the MSM was working with big tech to silence scientists with concerns. Concerns that the Wuhan lab may have leaked a bat virus modified by scientists to make it more infectious to humans.
Or Hunter Biden’s laptop conspiracy theory – well some news organisations peomulgated the conspiracy theory that this was Russian disinformation. But it was not. It was actually his laptop and likely would have changed the election outcome if it was taken seriously. It was the BBC promulgating conspiracy theories.

Research scientists working in labs on test animals have reported and documented (front-line real science, Sir), that as regards mRNA use for treatment and protection against Corona Virus's they have yet to find a solution to the effect of the "second" injections' triggering a Cytokine Storm (…plus other negative autoimmune responses)and causing permanent unexpected alterations/damage or death to the laboratory test animals. Quite alarming to think that this video has more thumbs down than thumbs up!! I think people are just unhappy with their lot in life (with or without the Covid pandemic) and are lashing out looking for someone to blame, and a celebrity/rich person who seems to have it all is an easy target.
