Gloria Steinem, who became a face of the women’s liberation movement in the US, has died, aged 92.
In a post on Instagram, her foundation said she “passed away peacefully” at her home in New York City on Wednesday, “surrounded by many who loved her”.
Steinem, who was a writer and magazine editor, co-founded the Women’s Action Alliance – a group dedicated to fighting sexism – more than 50 years ago.

Iran and the United States have carried out on the biggest exchange of attacks since July, stoking fears of a return to all out war.
Iran said 18 people were killed and more than 100 injured in latest US bombardment. It accused the US of committing a war crime by striking a wedding in the city of Kuhestak, killing four people including two children. The Pentagon responded by saying it does not target civilians.
In retaliation, Iran launched a wave of strikes against American targets in the region, including in Kuwait, Jordan, Iraq and Bahrain.
President Trump is warning that the US is prepared to carry out further strikes in response to those attacks.
There are warnings of a serious impact on the global economy, with further disruption to oil and gas supplies, affecting inflation and global borrowing costs.

In Nepal, a huge wave of mud and debris has left hundreds dead and rescuers racing to find survivors in treacherous conditions.

There are fears of more flash floods in Nepal, as rescuers scramble through villages engulfed in rock and mud in a desperate search for survivors of the flash floods that have left at least 1,400 missing and hundreds dead. It is feared that the final death toll may be much higher.
Survivors have been giving harrowing accounts of how their entire families were wiped away in the catastrophe.
Hundreds of foreign nationals are desperately waiting to hear from loved ones thought to be caught in the disaster. Nepalese authorities say at least 380 people are confirmed to have died.
The region is popular with trekkers from around the world and is a pilgrimage site for Hindus and Buddhists, visited by tens of thousands of pilgrims each year.
Travellers from at least 28 countries, are among those missing following the catastrophe. The Nepalese authorities says among those missing are citizens of India, China, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea, Singapore, Kazakhstan, Japan, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Germany, Belgium, Finland, France, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Ireland, Portugal, Serbia, Spain, Sweden, Russia, Belarus, Lithuania, Latvia, South Africa and Israel.
Tens of thousands of tourists make their way through Nepal annually. The disaster struck at the time of the year when people, especially Indian tourists, visit the area.
State media in China, which controls Tibet, reported three dead and at least 558 missing there. Among these are 260 foreign nationals. It is not clear if these figures overlap with the numbers provided by Nepal.
It appears that collapse of mountain glaciers triggered the disaster and there are fears of an imminent risk of further flash flooding without warning. Climate change is known to be driving faster glacier melt in the Hindu Kush Himalaya region, but scientists say it is too soon to pinpoint its role in this specific event.

Israel gets away with horrific atrocoties and the international community including the UK just simply stand by and allow homes to be demolished and Palestinians to be presecuted relentlessly. The Palestinians are desperate and cornered. The UK and the international community would not allow a people to be persecuted in such a way and classed as second class citizens with no rights in any other country, yet the do so with Israel!!!! I am sick to death of the West's inability to speak up when a wrong is a wrong!! What the hell is wrong with our governments??? the title is misleading as if they are "defending themselves from terrorism" or that its a 2 way conflict. Palestinians literally just want to go to work, eat, drink sleep, see their family and walk freely like any other human. They are being killed by israeli settlers who are hostile and israeli military watch the settlers hit and kill them with no shame in their hearts. The more UK supports israel and are silent on innocent palestinian suffering then the more israel will continue this genocide. If UK wants peace in palestine then the minimum is to condemn and denounce the regular violence that happens to palestinians everyday. Israeli military are wielding doors shut on palestinian home leaving them homeless and demolishing their homes. Palestinians try to go through legal channels using israeli courts and its repeatedly ignored. Palestinian women and babies are regularly being killed. Israeli politicians and settlers openly praise these treacherous acts of violence.
