Call for urgent cuts in methane gas emissions to tackle global warming – BBC News

Published

on

A United Nations report is calling for swift action to cut emissions of methane, a greenhouse gas that’s second only to carbon dioxide in driving global warming.

The report says curbing methane emissions could deliver immediate and long-lasting benefits for the climate, because the gas only lingers in the atmosphere for a relatively short time.

Huw Edwards presents BBC News at Ten reporting by chief environment correspondent Justin Rowlatt.

I thought climate change was all because of man made CO2?? Now they are moving the goal posts and going to ban naturally made gas!! 😂😂

Methane gas helps ocean keep warm ? Alot information proven that Methane gas helps earth atmosphere + bio – life+ trees 🌳. Natural Methane gas has helped earth atmosphere for millions of years

Another tax. How about spending less. Get rid of the climate change brigade and the alarmism will die. Get rid of the politicians pushing for the green agenda and taxes will fall.

But to make the future richer plant more trees ideally crop based ones.

Methane is a problem? Well the world needs to pave over all of it's Bogs, marshes, and wetlands. They produce disproportionate amounts of green house gases. I mean I love Wisky but no more peat, because the decaying and rotting material produces too much Methane.

I have to wonder how the warmi g effect of certain gasses is measured. Are they heating gasses in containers in a laborifory environment, or are we testing it in the natural environment?

I say this because I just watched a video which claimed that emperor pengiunes were a threat for global warming because they produced small amounts of some random chemical which had a green house effect.

Ofcourse. The issue with the abo e mention is that vast amounts of a chemical have to enter the upper atmosphere, and a some over effect has to be achieved before a random rare has can even BEGIN to produce a green house effect.

For an example of this done over effect, the phone layer has a similar effect for preventing uv radiation, and the formation of a single hole in the ozone layer due to CFCs from spray cans made the entire ozone layer effectively ineffective at preventing radiation burn on a world wide scale, due to light reflecting and refracting around this single opening in this atmospheric layer.

I have very little trust in this generation of scientists, which has been heavily indroctronated to protecting comunist petroleum states like kavakstan and veneswala by Soviet controlled faux christian churches. This latest generation of scientists is very good at giving experimental conditions and screwing with premises in order to creat ideological statements out of so called scientific papers (such as the paper linking child birth to CO2 emissions, a scientific study that is actual propoganda, and which has no scientific information within it.

Cyber Attack: Ransomware causing chaos globally – BBC News

Published

Tens of thousands of organisations have been caught out by a computer virus called WannaCry. The malicious software locks data away and demands a payment of up to $300 (£230) a time before it will restore scrambled files. In the UK, many hospitals fell victim and some health organisations diverted ambulances and cancelled non-essential services as they sought to contain and clean up the infection. Infections in more than 99 nations are being reported by security firms. It appears that the hardest hit are Russia and Spain.

Is this AI’s moment of truth? | BBC News

Published

on

A year ago, artificial intelligence was being sold as something close to science fiction — a technology that could transform society, cure disease, even reshape the global economy.

Today, the tone is changing. The companies leading the revolution are racing to the stock market — chasing billions in investment — while quietly confronting a much harder reality: AI is expensive, unpredictable, and far from profitable.

At the same time, some of the very people building this technology are warning we may be going too fast — even calling for a global pause.
And beyond Silicon Valley, a different story is emerging: growing public anxiety, political backlash, and the rise of what some are calling anti-AI populism.

So is AI entering its most pivotal moment yet — caught between financial pressure, technological risk, and political resistance?

AI Decoded Presenter Christian Fraser is joined by Financial Times AI Editor Madhumita Murgia, Thematic Strategist at Deutsche Bank Research Adrian Cox and Richard Coffin, Host of popular investing podcast ‘ The Plain Bagel’.
