Beirut explosion: ‘You want to save lives, but you are as helpless as they are’ – BBC News
Dr Marie Eid has told the BBC the hospital where she works in Beirut has been badly damaged, and that “it was a truly very, very traumatic experience.”
Hospital staff were forced to transform the car park into an emergency ward, as more and more injured people arrived for urgent treatment.
Lebanon’s President Michel Aoun said the blast was caused by 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate stored unsafely in a warehouse.

The US said it has hit “dozens” of Iranian military targets in overnight attacks, in response to Iran hitting commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
The military said it struck “air-defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone capabilities, and small boats”, using aircraft, ships, and drones – including “one-way attack sea drones for the first time”.
“The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime corridor for global trade,” the US military said. “Iran does not control it”.
In response, Iran said it targeted US bases in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait and also radar systems in Oman.

President Donald Trump has said the US is reinstating a naval blockade of Iranian ports and will impose a 20% charge on all cargo shipped through the Strait of Hormuz following days of escalating strikes between the two countries.
He said this would stop “Iran’s ships or customers” from entering or leaving the key oil shipping route, but “all other countries will have fair and open use of the Strait”.
Iran’s foreign minister later said whoever provides safe passage “should be compensated for this service”, but Iran would remain the strait’s “GUARDIAN” – using Trump’s word.
Tehran and Washington clashed over the strait’s control after exchanging strikes in the region overnight and on Monday.
The US said it carried out strikes against military targets in Iran, targeting air defence systems, coastal radars, and missile and drone sites. Iran said it responded by striking US military bases in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain, and radars in Oman.

Explosions have been heard near two Iranian port cities, Bandar Abbas and Bushehr, state media has reported.
It comes after another night of strikes between the US and Iran, with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps saying it hit two UAE tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and targeted US facilities in Jordan and Bahrain.
The UAE called the attack “brazen”, adding that an Indian crew member was killed and eight others were injured.
Meanwhile, the US military says it completed strikes on targets aimed at degrading “Iran’s ability to attack commercial shipping” – Iranian state media reports three people were killed.

The US military said it was carrying out a new wave of strikes on targets in Iran. It said the aim of the attacks was to degrade Iran’s ability to attack shipping in the strait of Hormuz. It came ass the US Navy resumed its blockade of Iran’s ports.
Iran said that control of the strait of Hormuz was required for its national security and it will exercise sovereignty over the key shipping lane, whatever the cost.
President Trump announced that he was scrapping a plan he had announced a day earlier, for placing a 20% toll or tariff on all cargos passing through the strait of Hormuz.

Global corruption and nepotism can prevent many other competent companies from having a fair challenge and our next generation of learned mankind deserves much more legitimate competitions than we are now. The massive explosion of Lebanon is a clear warning to the global community at large that the political incompetency inspired by the mafia system is not the correct doctrine to govern a nation. It is very common for any government in a nation including Singapore holding political power for some decades to be naturally leaning toward corruption and nepotism somehow. As many Singaporean employees are laid off and so do many PRs in a time of COVID-19 situation. As love is blind and so is great wealth. There are numerous ways of committing corruption and nepotism for a very long time often until God alone exposes who they really are. Such human devils we would call hypocrites are actually disbelievers of God's existence, regardless of Muslims or non-Muslims. They do not really practise what they preach or learn.
Christians may not believe the Day of Judgement exists but they forget God would subpoena them as a witness as well to testify against their killers like the case of terrorism to prove the latter is wrong and hence, deserve entering Hellfire. Suffice it to say, many Lebanese Christians who witnessed the massive explosion will be present on the Day of Judgement before the Presence of our sole Almighty Judge for the same good reason. You see, God would have mercy when one is feeling remorseful and has truly repented long before he or she dies and certainly not when one starts to regret on his or her deathbed. Late repentance done during the last moment on the deathbed is not acceptable to God as in the case of the wicked Pharaoh about to be drowned by the Red Sea. So do not focus too much on worldly affairs so that we forget our time here is not for eternity.

I was a medical student as a medical assistant but yet I wasn't that good on the computer. The doctor who I served under signed my externship form to let me go. I know that hospitals and medical centers are full of trauma victims. The whole entire world watched what happened in Beirut. Look at Texas City ammonium nitrate explosion in 1947. It looks like something from World War 2 few years earlier. It was done by a careless smoker onboard the ship that had tons of ammonium nitrate canvas bags. The world hearts, condolences, prayers, and aid goes to the people of Lebanon. 🇱🇧 🇺🇸💔😥😣😞😭😢😰😪💔

One thing clear from this video of inside of hospital ERs, roofs of houses if kept free from HDF then people inside will be more safe in such situations. HDF in itself is not bad but not good for roof decorations.

Poor girl. She and her colleagues had to stay strong, capable and working while everyone else goes to pieces around them. Very traumatic for everyone involved. Here's hoping the world pulls together to provide the help the Lebanese need to recover from this crisis as best they can.
