It seems pretty much a certainty that Andy Burnham will be the next British prime minister. Exactly when it happens depends on a few factors. We outline some of the reasons an early general election is likely.

Use of the term Commonwealth for the British Empire territories is a travesty and misuse of the term, stolen from the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth. Commonwealth can be formed only by mutual consent, not by imperial conquest. British Empire was Evil, just like Russian Empire.

As an Australian, the whole ‘let’s be a republic!!’ thing seems to be motivated by nothing but greed by those who stand to profit by filling the gaps in power. They then promote nonsense stories about sovereignty and growth, like we’re children growing into adulthood and needing our own identity, with not even a scrap of practical benefit to be seen. Sadly, plenty of people will make such a decision based on their feelings and not upon a rational assessment of the pros and cons.

His Majesty the King is very popular over here in New Zealand!

It's funny how if Australia wants an other
Referendum after 55% in favor of keeping the monarchy it's ok .
But if Scotland wanting a Referendum on a:51% in favour of independence is not ok.

Oddly no one ever asks us Brits how we feel about the Commonwealth whilst I'm a very strong supporter of the Monarchy and adored the late Queen I feel the Commonwealth has become a millstone round our necks that we can neither afford or need let these other places fund a Commonwealth of nations if they want one the UK should say enough is enough and get out.

short answer, as one of the last britain imperial projects, yes. Without the imperial glue, the nations would be free to chose their regional or global economic alliance of their like, without putting their past opressor at the center, giving that Britain, with its latest antics (londongrad fueled brexit) , proved to the world that its imperial deams are very well alive.

"Member states of the Commonwealth have to pay dues to the Commonwealth itself to cover the running cost of the organization. The don't pay taxes to the British government."
If the British crown is "the most important and vital symbol" that binds the Commonwealth of Nations together through a shared history and values, would running the British monarchy constituted as the "running cost" of the organization?
@Ivan-td7kb
January 7, 2024 at 5:45 am
"The 56 member nations of the Commonwealth of Nations are equal and autonomous, but they acknowledge the Queen as the head of the Commonwealth. The 15 members of the Commonwealth Realms retain the British monarchy as their head of state."
Hmm, I see a bit of contradiction here…

The Commonwealth will remain but the realms will drastically evaporate during this decade and rightly so. The advantages of removing the British monarch as head of state far outweigh the disadvantages, especially for those in the Caribbean.

The reality at least in Canada is that we already have a head of state who is a figure head. The reigning monarch via the governor general is, for all intense and purposes, ceremonial. The governor general hasn't gone against the wishes of the PM since the 1920's and probably never will again. We're so far along in history now that even the slightest perception of meddling from the GG or monarch would result in a referendum to leave with a significant chance of success. As others have mentioned, it's more about avoiding a constitutional crisis. It always seems to be UK outlets that obsess over the monarch's reach and status as head of state within it's old colonial hemisphere. In Canada, the queen/king isn't really part of the political conversation except when talking about reorganizing the government by removing the monarch as head of state.

I don’t get it – sooner than we expected- the woman lived to 96 – it’s later than we expected. Queen’s sister died way back in 2002.
