Cycling is being backed as an alternative to public transport and the government has said it will put hundreds of millions into creating this infrastructure.
However, if recent surveys are anything to go by, many people think cycling on the road is too dangerous.

The US said it has hit “dozens” of Iranian military targets in overnight attacks, in response to Iran hitting commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
The military said it struck “air-defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone capabilities, and small boats”, using aircraft, ships, and drones – including “one-way attack sea drones for the first time”.
“The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime corridor for global trade,” the US military said. “Iran does not control it”.
In response, Iran said it targeted US bases in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait and also radar systems in Oman.

President Donald Trump has said the US is reinstating a naval blockade of Iranian ports and will impose a 20% charge on all cargo shipped through the Strait of Hormuz following days of escalating strikes between the two countries.
He said this would stop “Iran’s ships or customers” from entering or leaving the key oil shipping route, but “all other countries will have fair and open use of the Strait”.
Iran’s foreign minister later said whoever provides safe passage “should be compensated for this service”, but Iran would remain the strait’s “GUARDIAN” – using Trump’s word.
Tehran and Washington clashed over the strait’s control after exchanging strikes in the region overnight and on Monday.
The US said it carried out strikes against military targets in Iran, targeting air defence systems, coastal radars, and missile and drone sites. Iran said it responded by striking US military bases in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain, and radars in Oman.

Explosions have been heard near two Iranian port cities, Bandar Abbas and Bushehr, state media has reported.
It comes after another night of strikes between the US and Iran, with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps saying it hit two UAE tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and targeted US facilities in Jordan and Bahrain.
The UAE called the attack “brazen”, adding that an Indian crew member was killed and eight others were injured.
Meanwhile, the US military says it completed strikes on targets aimed at degrading “Iran’s ability to attack commercial shipping” – Iranian state media reports three people were killed.

The US military said it was carrying out a new wave of strikes on targets in Iran. It said the aim of the attacks was to degrade Iran’s ability to attack shipping in the strait of Hormuz. It came ass the US Navy resumed its blockade of Iran’s ports.
Iran said that control of the strait of Hormuz was required for its national security and it will exercise sovereignty over the key shipping lane, whatever the cost.
President Trump announced that he was scrapping a plan he had announced a day earlier, for placing a 20% toll or tariff on all cargos passing through the strait of Hormuz.

I read an article (28th or 29th March 2023) on the BBC Northern Ireland sayin "Paying for children to be taught cycling proficiency at school is no longer affordable, the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) has said.
Surely this is doable outside of tax funding (other than say a small amount of match funding for charity) if sponsorship advertising (e.g. bike shops or insurance companies or garages or cycling-gaming-companies, or sports-foods, or sports clothing shops and battery sellers/makers like electronics shops that sell chargers or Garmin style gadets or cartographer companies selling maps or public transport/taxi services) was placed in church-based cycling proficiency schemes because a Pub;ic Right of Way is usually found near a church, and it can be inter-denomination since the church can also mention (just on a A6 sheet on paper of instructions and internet information) the ESword software. Thereby multiple schools can have their cycling proficiency consolodated into the church areas who would use a PROW and then a vaguely nearb (as long as it is safe) road on a different day for the lessons. Mutually beneficial interaction means it need not be solely down to taxation loss leaders. I would suggest that mobile phone companies that function as map or app like a Garmin or LAYAR style app get a chance to consider sponsoring via advertisements and also thereby the NUAR Cabinet Office Emergency Alerts system gets to incorporate basic prepping by software (as per he ESword mention). This is an opportunity to have a better system than the yank SMS smartphoe emergency text as a way to show that we are in healthy competition with out beloved cousins across the pond and that there is no hard feelings about the "day of the pew pew" as we mutalluy respect that this is merely an avenue to show we can do it better.

Astonishing! Only three months after the massive wave of cycling, the BBC decides to notice it. Actually that's pretty good considering the BBC hates cycling and simply refuses to mention it 99% of the time. I suppose we should be grateful for small mercies, and the fact that they didn't mention the H word.

If I started cycling to work, when we eventually do go back, it would be about the same time, or shorter, as taking the bus. I really really want to, I’m just very conscious and scared of being hit by cars on busy high streets. I’ve heard stories from friends who’ve been knocked off and had their bikes totalled from incidents. I’d probably do it if we had more cycle lanes 😩

I am Dutch so here is a "proper" guide
1) Don't wear a helmet it's useless and ugly.
2) get onto your bike and ride to your destination.
3) Once you have arrived at your destination complain about the weather and tell everyone that you hate cycling.
