Meta announces AI chatbots with ‘personality’ – BBC News

Published

on

Meta has announced a series of new chatbots with “personality” to be used in its Messenger service.

At Meta’s first in-person event since before the pandemic, the company’s boss Mark Zuckerberg said that it had been an “amazing year for AI”.

Zuckerberg also discussed the metaverse – a virtual world – which is a concept that he has so far spent tens of billions of dollars on.

Regarding the AI chatbots: This is impressive tech. But what's the point? People say "it is cool to chat to and get advice from your idols"

But it isnt your idol. The advice and replies you get are not that of your idol, but a computer. Would be more "useful" if they made Siri into a "real" entity, much like AIs such as Cortana are portrayed in the Halo universe. Dont really see the point of having celebs for this purpose.

Everyone wants to poopoo on Meta and the MetaVerse but I’m convinced that the reason why they flopped and lost those billions, is because they are maybe a decade ahead of its time. But if they can just hold on and stay afloat, I am 1000% certain that they will surpass every tech company. Including apple and Microsoft.
You say that this isn’t what the main stream wants. Percentagewise that may be true for right now. The reality is, we have pretty much reached the pinnacle of what our current technology can entertain us with. Every year the iPhone only adds a few megapixels to their lenses, or maybe removes headphones and as wireless charging. But there hasn’t truly been any real innovation in years. And unless there’s some new type of breakthrough coming, that’ll totally revolutionize smart phones, people are getting bored, and the only alternative, the only thing that’s left is VR and augmented reality.
The truth isn’t that the main stream isn’t interested in this technology. Or that the image isn’t sharp enough, or the frame rates aren’t high enough. The real reason why this isn’t 100% on the main stream agenda is because it’s so bulky and expensive and it’s not as invisible as say an iPhone or an iwatch.

If they can get this tech to be as physically invasive as an iPhone and cough, just as much, smart phones will be a thing of the past .

One final thing regarding consumer privacy with wearing a camera on your face . I don’t think VR glasses will be any less a violation then a regular cell phone is. People recording things with their phones all the time. The only differences you may be not knowing that thier recording. And in spite of what most people think, it is not against the law to record people without their consent. That is the most common misconception when it comes to videoing people.. people think you have to have their permission and you don’t. So that makes this whole subject moot.

    · I believe we are meant to be like Jesus in our hearts and not in our flesh. AI is just our flesh and that is it. It knows only things of the flesh (our fleshly desires) and cannot comprehend things of the spirit such as peace of heart. Whereas we are a spirit and we have a soul but live in the body (in the flesh). When you go to bed it is your flesh that sleeps but your spirit never sleeps (otherwise you have died) that is why you have dreams. More so, true love that endures/last is a thing of the heart (when I say 'heart', I mean 'spirit'). But fake love, pretentious love, love with expectations, love for classic reasons, love for material reasons and love for selfish reasons that is a thing of our flesh. In the beginning God said let us make man in our own image, according to our likeness. Take note, God is Spirit and God is Love. As Love He is the source of it. We also know that God is Omnipotent, for He creates out of nothing and He has no beginning and has no end. That means, our love is but a shadow of God's Love. True love looks around to see who is in need of your help, your smile, your possessions, your money, your strength, your quality time. Love forgives and forgets. Love wants for others what it wants for itself. Take note, love works in conjunction with other spiritual forces such as faith and patience. We should let the Word of God be the standard of our lives not AI. If not, God we let us face AI on our own and it will enslave us and make us worship it. We can only destroy ourselves but with God all things are possible. God knows us better because He is our Creater and He knows our beginning and our end. Our prove text is from the book of Daniel 7-9, Revelation 13-15, Matthew 24-25 and Luke 21. So, let us watch and pray.

Besides the privacy concerns regarding the RayBan glasses, think of the military and law enforcement applications. Everything the troopers see, General AI sees and instructs them with the problems before them. This should be very concerning and stopped immediately. You won't be able to trust anyone wearing glasses. With facial recognition linked to our personal history, that AI knows all about, we will be at an extreme disadvantage to those willing human robots who have traded their souls and freedom for knowledge and power. This is it, folks.

People need to stop worrying about whether someone happens to be recording them.. That ship sailed over a decade ago.
It is within the realm of possibility, that someday we will be able to extract our thoughts and dreams, and save them as viewable "video files".. Are people who're afraid of being recorded now, by the same logic, will they someday be afraid of being seen, remembered, and thus recorded, by other people? lol

Didn't Google attempted this with Google Glass, but now Rayban is trying to do this but more discretely. It reminds me of Xbox trying to making console gaming as a digital only DRM future, and even now Microsoft is pushing this goal with the leaked Series X refresh. Cameras on glasses is going to be the same as Dash cameras on cars.

US hits ‘dozens’ of Iranian sites in strikes, as Iran targets US bases in region | BBC News

Published

on

The US said it has hit “dozens” of Iranian military targets in overnight attacks, in response to Iran hitting commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

The military said it struck “air-defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone capabilities, and small boats”, using aircraft, ships, and drones – including “one-way attack sea drones for the first time”.

“The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime corridor for global trade,” the US military said. “Iran does not control it”.

In response, Iran said it targeted US bases in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait and also radar systems in Oman.

Trump demands 20% toll on cargos passing through strait of Hormuz | BBC News

Published

on

President Donald Trump has said the US is reinstating a naval blockade of Iranian ports and will impose a 20% charge on all cargo shipped through the Strait of Hormuz following days of escalating strikes between the two countries.

He said this would stop “Iran’s ships or customers” from entering or leaving the key oil shipping route, but “all other countries will have fair and open use of the Strait”.

Iran’s foreign minister later said whoever provides safe passage “should be compensated for this service”, but Iran would remain the strait’s “GUARDIAN” – using Trump’s word.

Tehran and Washington clashed over the strait’s control after exchanging strikes in the region overnight and on Monday.

The US said it carried out strikes against military targets in Iran, targeting air defence systems, coastal radars, and missile and drone sites. Iran said it responded by striking US military bases in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain, and radars in Oman.

US launches more strikes on Iran and resumes naval blockade of ports | BBC News

Published

on

The US military said it was carrying out a new wave of strikes on targets in Iran. It said the aim of the attacks was to degrade Iran’s ability to attack shipping in the strait of Hormuz. It came ass the US Navy resumed its blockade of Iran’s ports.

Iran said that control of the strait of Hormuz was required for its national security and it will exercise sovereignty over the key shipping lane, whatever the cost.

President Trump announced that he was scrapping a plan he had announced a day earlier, for placing a 20% toll or tariff on all cargos passing through the strait of Hormuz.
