Dontae Sharpe: ‘My 26-year fight to prove my innocence’ – BBC News

Dontae Sharpe spent 26 years in prison for a murder he didn’t commit. After proving his innocence and fighting to have his name cleared, he was granted a full pardon on 12 November 2021.
This BBC documentary highlighted the miscarriage of justice, and his fight with the criminal justice system that stole his freedom.

A Russian drone hit an apartment block in Romania causing a fire and wounding two people, officials say.
The incident happened on Friday in the town of Galati – close to Romania’s eastern border with Ukraine and Moldova.
Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte said “Russia’s reckless behaviour is a danger to us all”, while European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Russia’s “war of aggression had crossed yet another line”.
Russian drones have strayed across Romania’s border a number of times during the four-year war with Ukraine, but it is the first time citizens from the Nato country have been hurt. Russia has yet to comment on the incident.

I'm really, really glad that Dontae finally got his full pardon. I hope that he's living his best life now.
It makes me so sad that there are so many innocent people in prison and on Death Row. Our justice system is so broken. 😔

Sorry but if you lock someone up for 26 years for a crime in which they are innocent, you should get a minimum 500k per year payout. And even that I think is low

Almost 4yrs as a fugitive from injustice and police brutality. Two officers lied and said I punched an officer in the face and resisted arrest, two felonies in Ohio. I escaped a 16th floor courtroom in Columbus Ohio. I had witnesses but the court never allowed them to testify which would prove I did nothing wrong. Court did not let them testify, and neither could I. I will resist and fight til the end.

26 years ! some incarcerated innocent after 40 years , how much can you pay these people for the life stolen from them ? How many of these people that systematically get sent to prison and they know they innocent ! for decades?
Institutionalised racism in every fabric of society , being born black is a hazard to the black man or woman in society .

I was expecting to hear the state would not issue the pardon. What a wonderful ending. I hope this is one of many pardons that are due to innocent individuals that are incarcerated in the US.
