Ukraine war crimes investigated at children’s camp – BBC News

Published

on

Five Ukrainian men were forced to their knees and killed at a children’s camp, in what is further evidence of potential war crimes by Russian forces, found by the BBC.

In early March, Camp Radiant near Bucha, in Ukraine, became an execution ground.

Since Russian forces were pushed back from Kyiv at the end of March, the bodies of more than 1,000 civilians have been discovered in the Bucha region.

Now Ukraine is searching for their killers. Moscow has previously denied any involvement in the Bucha killings.

The BBC’s eastern Europe correspondent Sarah Rainsford reports from Bucha.

I don't understand why our authorities turn a blind eye to what these refugees are doing in our countries? Constant fights, drug trafficking, trafficking, in the end, with their own children. What is this all about? Why is there no action on the part of the authorities? Or they are waiting for local residents to organize rallies, as in Kiev in 2014. So, I'm sure it's not far from that…

Ukrainian side also kills wounded Russian troops, against the geneva convention. If the west does it, it's fine.

I see no evidence, only claims. Smells like propaganda to me. It's the Ukrainian Nazis that are committing the war crimes.

29. @dirgsuite5546

War propaganda is always on both sides of any military conflict. Atrocities too, it is the nature and logic of war. Propaganda hides atrocities by it´s own military and emphasizes those committed by the opposite side. This is why Ukraine keeps Western journalists away from the front, but so does Russia. What is unacceptable, is a war tribunal in Den Haag that does everything to reveal Russian war crimes but turns a blind eye to what happened on the other side. The difference concerning the media in a autocracy and democracy, is the first is owned by the state and second are owned by economical powers, that own politicians, who run the country. The result is controlled narratives on both sides, not just in times of war.

The legal advisers helping migrants pretend to be gay to stay in the UK | BBC Newscast

Published

on

Today, an undercover BBC investigation has found evidence of law firms and legal advisors helping migrants pretend to be gay to get asylum.

Migrants were advised to take staged photos at nightclubs, attend LGBT events and to go to GPs pretending to be depressed to obtain medical evidence to support their cases.

Adam and Chris are joined by BBC politics investigation correspondent Billy Kenber, who uncovered the story. In response to our findings, the Home Office said: “Anyone found trying to exploit the system will face the full force of the law, including removal from the UK.”

Plus, Adam also checks in with Faisal, who’s in the US at the IMF’s annual conference. He fills us in on the indirect war of words between Rachel Reeves and her US counterpart, Scott Bessent.

I watched Hungary’s 16-year Viktor Orbán era crumble | BBC News

Published

on

Hungary has seen a historic election result. After 16 years in power, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has been ousted from the role.

Péter Magyar’s Tisza party won a comfortable “super majority” with two-thirds of the seats in parliament, meaning the party will be able to change the constitution.

The defeat will mean a huge reset of Hungary’s relationships with the rest of the world.

Orbán has been a close partner of both US President Donald Trump and Russia’s Vladimir Putin, and he had become a big thorn in the side of the EU and Ukraine.

The BBC’s Europe Editor Katya Adler was in Budapest as the election unfolded, and takes you with her in this video as a historic defeat takes place.

Americans react to President Donald Trump’s feud with Pope Leo XIV | BBC News

Published

on

Americans are reacting to President Donald Trump’s escalating feud with Pope Leo XIV and the backlash surrounding an AI-generated image depicting the president as a Jesus-like figure, which has since been deleted.

On Monday, Trump posted a lengthy Truth Social message attacking the pontiff, who has been a vocal critic of the US and Israeli military operations in Iran.

He criticised the Pope, calling him “weak on crime” and “terrible for foreign policy”.

The Pope said on Monday that he has “no fear” of the Trump administration or “speaking out loudly of the message of the Gospel, which is what I believe I am here to do”.
