Twitter: How many bot accounts are there? – BBC News
What exactly is a bot account? BBC technology show Click reports.
In April, Twitter agreed to sell the company to the world’s richest person, Elon Musk.
However, the deal soured after Mr Musk alleged he was misled about the number of spam and bot accounts on the platform.
He said he no longer wished to purchase the company in May, but Twitter argued that Mr Musk cannot back out of the deal.
But how many accounts on Twitter are fake?

Tens of thousands of organisations have been caught out by a computer virus called WannaCry. The malicious software locks data away and demands a payment of up to $300 (£230) a time before it will restore scrambled files. In the UK, many hospitals fell victim and some health organisations diverted ambulances and cancelled non-essential services as they sought to contain and clean up the infection. Infections in more than 99 nations are being reported by security firms. It appears that the hardest hit are Russia and Spain.

Have you ever tried to delete an account from Twitter, Facebook or any other major social media platform but found it's nearly impossible? Well now you know why that is.. They charge advertisers based on their number of subscribers, and they are generally valued based on the same, so of course they are going to hold on to every sub they can! I know I have way more dead accounts on all these platforms then live ones, but they're all being counted the same! Same goes for probably 99% of the population so Elon is absolutely right, between dead accounts and bot accounts the number is likely over 50%

Why don’t the just remove them? I remember instagram did it a few years ago. I remember celebrities deleting their instagram accounts cause they lost over half their followers due to bot accounts being removed. I’m thinking that’s why twitter don’t wanna remove them in case they lose celebrities from their platform.
