Let more Afghan interpreters resettle in UK, say ex-military chiefs – BBC News
Dozens of former military commanders have called on the government to allow more Afghans who worked for British forces to resettle in the UK.
Ministers have recently expanded the UK’s relocation scheme for Afghans.
But in a letter to the PM, the group said they were “gravely concerned” about hundreds of interpreters who have had their applications rejected.

Huge crowds have flocked to a canal in South Korea to watch a stranded shark.
Bukangi was first spotted in the waterway last month in the south-eastern city of Busan.
Now a third attempt has been made to rescue the female using nets to guide her back to the open sea.

People in the province of Alberta will vote on 19 October on whether they want to start the process of separating from the rest of Canada.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has called the upcoming referendum a “dangerous bluff”, comparing it to the Brexit vote that saw the UK leave the European Union.
But supporters of Albertan independence believe that the oil-rich province has long been overlooked by decision-makers in Ottawa, the national capital, and that federal environmental policies have hindered its ability to develop its natural resources.
So, could Alberta really become its own country?

Tens of thousands of people are demonstrating across France, in protest at what they say is under-investment in high schools.
Some protests over the past week in France have turned violent, as protesters and authorities clashed.
French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu said: “Burning down a high school does not improve the state of high school buildings. Lynching a teacher does not help replace teachers”, adding it is a “lie” to suggest the government had ordered “police repression” against demonstrators.
