Catastrophic climate change outcomes like human extinction ‘not being taken seriously’ – BBC News
Catastrophic climate change outcomes, including human extinction, are not being taken seriously enough by scientists, a new study says.
The authors say that the consequences of more extreme warming, which is possible if no action is taken, are “dangerously underexplored”.
They argue that the world needs to start preparing for the possibility of what they term the “climate endgame”.

Will the new cancer vaccine survive RFK Jr’s America? | BBC News
A new personalised vaccine given in combination with a drug has stopped skin cancer returning in patients during a trial, representing a potentially watershed moment in cancer treatment. Scientists used mRNA technology, which was used for some Covid-19 vaccines.
But that technology – and vaccines more generally – have become increasingly controversial in the United States since the Covid-19 pandemic. The Health Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr, is a vaccine sceptic.
In August 2025 cancelled $500m (£376m) in funding for mRNA vaccine research. The move impacted 22 projects being led by major pharmaceutical companies, including Pfizer and Moderna, for vaccines against bird flu and other viruses, according to Kennedy’s department.
We speak to Tom Whipple, host of the BBC’s Inside Science programme, about the science of this new vaccine. And we ask how funding cuts for vaccine research could impact health outcomes not just for Americans, but for the world.

Historic first as Chinese robot beats Usain Bolt’s 100m world record at Beijing games | BBC News
A Chinese humanoid robot has run 100 metres in 9.39 seconds in a preliminary heat at the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing, surpassing the men’s world record time held by Jamaican sprinting great Usain Bolt.
Tiangong Ultra, developed by the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center, won its heat at the opening of the games’ second edition. The robot overtook smartphone maker Honor’s Lightning near the finish after falling behind early in the race. Lightning finished in 9.47 seconds, also faster than the 9.58-second record Bolt set at the 2009 World Athletics Championships in Berlin.
The results marked a remarkable improvement from last year’s inaugural games, when Tiangong Ultra won the 100 metres in 21.50 seconds. Tiangong also won the world’s first humanoid robot half-marathon, held in Beijing last year.
The 100 metres is among 51 events at the games, which include football, dancing and contests to complete industrial tasks.
China is promoting humanoid robots as a strategic emerging industry, with policymakers and companies betting that advances in AI and hardware will accelerate their use in manufacturing, logistics and consumer applications.
Investor enthusiasm for the sector was underscored recently when shares in Unitree, China’s best-known humanoid robot maker, jumped more than five fold in its Shanghai trading debut, giving the company a market value of about $50 billion.
This year’s games have drawn 2,056 robots from 666 teams across 16 countries and six continents, up from 280 teams at the inaugural event.

There was a time when sleeping was simple – but now, it’s a bit more complicated.
Sleep has rules – there’s the right bedtime, the right temperature, and the right amount of deep sleep.
It’s not just something we do, it’s something we measure.
But is all this number punching actually helping us rest?

It’s 2023 now, the permafrost melt and methane feedback is well established, the worlds bread baskets are simultaneously under threat by wild weather and war, greed causing a cost of living crisis for the middle and lower class.
The collapse will be food and heat related and it’s happening already. 3 years tops before the power goes out permanently 🙏

Oil, coal, and gas are still our main modes of energy production. The carbon emissions from those alone account for about 75% of what we produce per year. Still, they tell me "you can make a difference if you recycle!" We're all gonna die huh?

A 3°C world will not stop at 3°C. Get over it. That much warming will jump even higher very quickly. We can expect that to happen after the Arctic to go ice free next year. That warming will happen pretty much at the same time. And it will warm to 4C a year after and will be followed by 5C then 6C and so on and so on.
You are not going to be alive to see it.
"If we lose the Arctic, We lose the World."
That is not a brief vacation.
That is permanent loss and you are part of that loss.
We have to STOP this NOW.
Delaying by doing more research on the already completed research is just a monumental waste of time and is the same as what we have been doing "Business as Usual."
@brentkn
January 6, 2024 at 1:45 am
There is no point in looking at 3°C of warming because everyone will be dead by then. The world was warned by the scientists back in 1998 not to go past 1°C of warming and when they did, the politicians began bumping up the goalpost and the people listened to the lying politicians.
Everyone was told and here you guys are asking us scientists for more research. The research is done. You won't live to see a 3°C world. Forget it. Your countries are going to be ash by then.
Wake up before you die and accept the consequences for not listening to the scientists who issued the warnings 25 years ago.

Round up the pollenator's, regulate everything into a GMO, with one seed die-off genetics to secure seed sales bi-yearly, and yeah, you can make it seem so. There's a fake crisis for sure. Saying billions of people live on our planet and animals are being crowded out is a convenient phrase, but truth is we have enough land area in Texas alone to hold half the world's people comfortably. We own those land areas within the maps, but there are ecosystems completely uneffected in those regions. You use the technical boundaries of the maps to sound sinister to stupid audiences, or so you believe.
Volcanoes are in charge of climate change, no one denies it happens, we deny it happens like Al Gore says it does and the actual driving mechanics, consensus, is pushing like its fact and not communist propaganda to drive reset aspirations.
This communist eco-scarecrow is just a control tactic to gain authority to own the resources. They'll revert to what China does right now globally in a decade, if given reigns to control us globally.
We regulate in the Deep South, the radicals in California destroy and set fires to push the we're doomed and destructive agenda for Marxism. While getting fire relief money and insurance payments. The Marxist hubs of Washington and Oregon join in every year to push the climate crisis agenda, but Alabama is green and flourishing with its neighbors in the old regulatory conservation methods that work perpetually, indefinitely.
Its all joined at the hip, and it's all lies.
A huge spot appeared in the early spectrometry scans of Earth over North America. In that infant age of science, they labeled it greenhouse pollution on sight to panic us then. Following your main idiot's literature here on this cast.
It was determined after analysis to be pure oxygen. Our crops every year renew the atmosphere even more than the rainforests. We are the biggest global producer of oxygen and alarmist insanity isn't new or a passing fad.
Climate freaks, will giddily point to California getting an amount of snow it hasn't seen in a hundred years like its human impact today causing it. Missing the obvious oxymoron of, "as much snow as it had a hundred years ago". Climate models are engineered to be in disaster based on no corrective processes within Earth's ecosphere.
In truth there are cycle's of change in climactic conditions that have little to do with mankind. As the 1995 hole in the ozone scare was found to have self-repaired by 2015.
The super volcanoes spew out tons of aerosol particulates. The things they say our deodorant puts in the atmosphere. Our output is like 2% verses 86% volcano per year or decade. We aren't driving or impacting anything significantly, so the only reason to bring it up is to panic free society into willful capitulation for manager oversight.
i.e. Communism, as much as it cliams to be against management, we saw in Cuba and other psedo-capitalistic nations like China, this is a complete and utter lie. Every aspect of life is controlled and monitored with regulatory limiters.
Nothing in nature is broken. The processes are just in transition and the cycle goes on. Animals dying out aren't a moral crisis, people's populations being labled the cause is the only unethical immoral undertaking, when the elite who want control are to blame.
Sea levels rise and fall but coastal inundation most often is caused by sand dredging for gold, and other resources and for the cement industry. They suck out tons of sand per day off of coastal shelf's and then the coastline begins to sink as it falls into the lows created in that action. Mostly around islands who have been raped by industry due to rights violations by developing nations in their regions. Wind blown sand is not suitable for cement so only sea sand is rough enough to do the bonding process, and any thinking person can see that it takes millions of tons just to make one stadium, let alone a city. So there is a human impact, but it's corporate and they want you to turn over everything to them so they can manage it. No thanks.
You're all naive at best, complacent at an incompetent level if innocent, or are active in the conspiracy to missdirect, cover up data and lie. Because you're a corporate paid mouth, or a communist supporter.
Take climate and extinction and shove it up your corporate bums, and blame your horrible wildlife management practices in fanatic area's and your industrial oversight for any issues you blame on the public at large.
We aren't to blame, you idiot's are!

Mostly dangerous drivel. Globally the ACE index (accumulated cyclone energy) 1980-2021 shows no increasing trend. Global Hurricane Landfalls 1970-2021 (updated from Weinkle et al, 2012) shows no trend. Satellite data since 1980 shows a slight downward global trend for total hurricaine numbers with 2021 being a record low year. The IPCC reports in AR6, chapter 11, "The total global frequency of TC [tropical cyclone] formation will decrease or remain unchanged with increasing global warming (medium confidence)." Multidecadal variability in Atlantic hurricaines is most probably related to the AMO (Vecchi et al, 2021). NOAA data 1851-2021 shows no trend in number of hurricaine landfalls with the record high being 1886. What the data from NOAA SPC shows about tornados: EF1-EF5 (1954-2022) no trend; EF3-EF5 (most destructive) (1954-2022) 50% decline. No EF5s in US since 2013 (a record absence).
The Global Land Precipitation Anomaly from AR5 will disappoint with deviations from the average increasing by 0.2% per decade, but if you look at the actual data, it's just very variable over the decades.
Drought appears to be decreasing (Watts et al, 2018) measured by SPI 1901-2017.
Deaths from natural disasters are about 0.6% of what they were a century ago.
What else? Oh, deserts like the Sahara have shrunk considerably and the Earth has greened by 15% or more in a human lifetime (NASA).
On extinction the rate is very low: 900 known lost species for 2.1 million known species in 500 years. At that frequency it will take nearly 190,000 years to reach 15% extinction i.e. a mass extinction.
There is no climate crisis. This video is anti-humanist.

The scientists are notoriously poor communicators and their predictive models were deeply flawed and did not take into consideration the exponential effects of multiple tipping point being breached, which has already happened. Truth is, homo sapiens is on its way out. All Life on Earth is now threatened because of human stupidity, egoism, and unconsciousness. The "human condition" resulted in world-wide narcissism and codependency, 2 diseases of the soul. Specifically, the human ego become severed from Soul, Nature, and Nature's G-d. This causes people to seek a sens of Self outside of themselves…in material goods, money, status, temporal power, etc. This is what drove our inevitable extinction….by 2028.

What aren’t taken seriously are the false claims by politically motivated pseudo-scientists who claim the sole cause of global warming is human carbon emissions. That is a lie. Anyone who believes that doesn't understand the difference between cause and effect. Carbon emissions are the effect or symptom of human overpopulation. Check out the graphs of human population vs. carbon in the atmosphere. A big part of global warming is that it is a part of natural cooling and warming cycles cause by Earth’s orbit. The rest is caused by human overpopulation and who is to blame for that? Yes, there are organizations and human philosophies that are to blame for that; the prohibition of contraception up until the middle of the 20th century. The Catholic Church is mostly to blame for that; they and other religions that fought against legalizing contraception even after Margaret Sanger railed against women’s right to control their own bodies and her arranging the first conference in Geneva on world population in 1927. Few people or organizations took her seriously. So stop blaming scientists. Scientists have been shouting out for decades about the issues of human overpopulation and have not been heard. The politicians have buried their voices in bullshit about renewable energy and other Band-Aids. This population of over 8 million people who are clearing the forests for housing projects worldwide cannot be supported without the use of fossil fuels. As for demanding that the wealthier countries pay for the damage I say no! Make the countries and religions that won’t stop the population boom pay for the real cause of global warming that is higher than that expected by natural causes.

Crazy how they completely ignore that Earth itself puts out 50 to 60 % of green house gases after that last discovery in the 3% of the ocean they have explored
As they expect to find more geothermal lost cities that might put out 100 times more than all other known natural sources like the last one did overed that dropped our contribution by at least 5 to 10% if it just puts out 100 times more green house gases than the next natural source.
But if it's 100 times more than all other natural sources then more like 15 to 25% or more.
So we could stop polluting with green house gases and still not stop a thing. Maybe even still been decades from disaster like scientists say even if we never polluted.
So how do the stop those vents from releasing gases. Cause so far even assuming there are only 5 to 10 other like places that put out more than they assumed as they don't even know how much Earth itself puts out cause most of the ocean is unexplored…. It never mattered what humans do.
And forget Mars or other places out there to. You'd die in 30 to 60 seconds unprotected and not just cause Mars has an atmosphere that's 96% green house gases compared to Earth's less than 1% and they can't even fix Earth. So Mars is a waste of time and resources and would be terrible to run to for the rich as well.
Plus any liquid water would probably be far worse than acid rain on Earth that is so bad from just the less than 1% green house gas atmosphere we have. At 96% any actual water is probably more like battery acid or worse and can't use that.
