West Side Story’s Ariana DeBose answers our burning questions | Bazaar UK
While the last two years have been drastically different for many people, it’s been a particularly transformative period for #ArianaDeBose. The American actress and singer was cast as Anita in Steven Spielberg’s #WestSideStory – a role she describes as “life changing” – and her performance has since landed her nominations for a Golden Globe, an Oscar, and two BAFTAs.
“It’s definitely opened up my world to crazy new horizons,” she tells us of the role when we meet to record our video interview at the BAFTA headquarters in London. She recalled how she felt when Spielberg offered her the job, describing it as a “really special” moment.

I think Arianna Debose is so cool. She's the new actress who won Oscars for acting. I think she is so cool. She is similar to Halle Berry in the 1990s in 2022.

I saw west side story two days ago and I'm now obsessed with Ariana Debose! She's so incredibly talented and vibrant. I hope to see her in many things in the future!
